Name change question!

Amanda, on October 7, 2019 at 7:29 PM Posted in Texas Planning 0 5
Hi all! Starting the process of changing my name in Texas. I see that to change your name at the DMV, you need to do so within 30 days of your official name change. Is that within 30 days after your wedding or within 30 days after changing it at the social security office? We were married in Colorado 9/14 so it’s taken some time to get our certificate back. Worried my 30 day deadline is approaching!
thank you all for the help!

Hey Amanda!! Congratulations on your marriage! Have you already gone on honeymoon, or is that something you still have to look forward to?

When it comes to legal situations such as official name changes, I always suggest that you contact your county clerk or in the case, the DMV, directly. It’s really important that you get the correct information and not rely entirely on word of mouth.

Your official name change is when you change it at the social security office, not your wedding day.

Well I went to the DMV today. Five hours later I have officially changed my name! Whew. I do recommend doing the online check in but you have to do it right when it opens at 7:30am or so as the appts get taken in the first thirty mins. I found out the hard way! The social security office was a snap, in and out in twenty mins!
