Name Change During Covid-19

Amy, on May 5, 2020 at 5:56 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 3
Hello! I got married during COVID-19 with a livestream ceremony. I need to legally change my name for my job. Has anyone gone through the process during this time, with the Social Security offices closed? I am in Phoenix, AZ.

Thank you!

Not sure about Az, but I work for a city in CA and we are doing everything via email and over the phone. Our offices are closed but we are still offering services to the public. Have you called your local office to see if they can help you with the paperwork remotely

I did mine through the mail. I am not sure what happened but they misplaced my paperwork for about a month. When I called they said they'd never seen my documents. Well, two days ago I had paperwork sent from the field manager saying a new card should be to me within two weeks. All in all, my process has taken about 40 days so far and have not recieved my new card yet. With things beginning to open up, it might be wise just to wait it out.

You don't need to go in to an office in person - you can do it all through the mail!

    Here's the official step-by-step info:

How do I change or correct my name on my Social Security number card?
