Nails! What to Do about Them?

Tiger Bride, on July 16, 2020 at 12:03 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 14

We moved our wedding so I have some time to think about this but I'm trying to figure out what to do with my nails for the wedding. I have never had my nails professionally done and rarely paint them myself, and I don't want to be uncomfortable on the day of my wedding with something that feels unnatural/unusual. I also don't want to chip them as we will be setting up tables and chairs ourselves. But I do want them to look good.

Has anyone worn their natural nails to their wedding, maybe with a clear coat of some kind?

Should I get my nails done sometime soon to see how they feel?

You have really beautiful nails if you only did a clear coat over them it would be just fine

Maybe get a mani and have them do just a clear coat that way they can be shaped/cleaned up without being uncomfortable?

You could do a buff manicure where they clean up your cuticles, file and shape your nails, and buff them to a shine. Then you are treating yourself just a bit, but still comfortable with your polishless fingers and not worrying about chipping anything.

It is worth going a month or more before your wedding to see how you like a particular nail technican. You might want to change how they shaped your nails for instance and having a "trial" manicure would help you know what you're in for closer to the big day.

I always get gel nails and I absolutely love them! They don’t chip like regular nail polish and it can just be painted in your natural nails, no need for acrylics. They last me about 3 weeks, I would get them done the week of the wedding though.

I say do what you'll be most comfortable with, but if you want to have color on them I recommend a gel manicure. They typically cost around $30 (at least everywhere I've gone) and those suckers last. I've had one stay on for 3 weeks before without a single issue. There's no uncomfortable feel like with fake nails so you will have full finger mobility to do basically anything

You have beautiful nails. I agree with PPs that getting a manicure just to clean up your cuticles, shape, and either buff for shine or apply clear coat would look really nice. Your could also do it yourself, nail buffers are fairly cheap if you don’t have one, but sometimes it’s nice to get some pampering and it is your wedding day.

I would go with your natural nails unless you really want a pop of color then I would do a gel manicure.

Just get gel polish a few days before your wedding. It will last about 10-14 days and not chip. There are lots of neutral bridal tones so that they will look nice but won't be shockingly bright. You are naturally blessed with great nails!

For me I’m use to getting them done but I opted in for press on nails so I can always take them off, only got a pedicure ❤️

Like others have said, I would do a gel manicure. It won’t chip and it keeps your nails nice and strong so your nails also don’t break that day. That’s usually what I go for because I like the more natural feel as well.

Thank you everyone! I think I will give gel nails a try and see how I like them. Our wedding is far away from where we live so I won't be able to go to the same place, but I think getting my nails done around here would be a good way to try them out and see how they feel. I also really like the idea of getting them buffed and polished; I didn't even realize that would be an option!

As someone who also rarely has my nails done, I love the way gel manicures look and feel. A word of caution, if you don’t have them professionally removed you risk your natural nails becoming thinner and more brittle. Even with that, mine had to fully grow out again before they were back to normal after only a couple months having gels.

Oh wow - your natural nails look so good! I can never keep mine looking that nice without a gel or powder dip manicure!

I think giving gel nails and buffing & polishing a test run is a great plan to see if you like it! 💅

I've never had acrylic. I always get my real nails done, once every 5 or so years and get the gel polish on them which make them last longer.
