Nails - other options than acrylic

August Bride, on October 18, 2010 at 1:57 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

I saw a post a few months ago about acrylic's. My fiance hates them and my nails don't grow fast and they always chip and break.

I don't want to have to go to a salon every few weeks to get gel nails and have them filled. Has anyone tried to use the gel and the uv lamp without getting tips?

Have you considered using methods to help improve your nails first? There are ways to make them grow faster and stronger. For example, taking pre-natal vitamins is good for your hair and nails since both are made from keratin. Also, when you're in the shower... take your conditioner and rub it thickly on your nails, a 30 second count, then rinse off. Conditioner, especially one suited to help hair grow longer or provide strength to hair, will also do the same for nails. There are also nail polishes, clear ones, that require a single coat and help provide nutrients to the nail while adding a touch of shine.

I've only been using the conditioner method since High School and my nails have been amazing because of it, I used to have very brittle nails.

I had the same issue. I ended up getting gels and they were amazing! they looked and felt like real nails. Just ask for them to be cut short. I would get them again!

You can get nail wraps. It's a nylon overlay with gel, and is UV cured. You keep your same nail size, but it makes your nails strong and they won't break. Heres some info about them.

I agree w/october bride. I stopped getting acrylics in 2006 because they would turn yellow quickly and especially if you needed a refill. And they chipped & cracked easily. I get solar now which is healthier and they dont crack and they dont turn yellow either. I love solar and I dont have to refill them that often, i can usually go about 3 weeks to a month before I need a refill. Solar nails are very good.

I usually get just a gel overlay, no tips. That way the polish lasts longer. For the wedding however, im just going with my real nails and getting a french manicure. I worked so hard to grow them out! LOL

@ Abryanna, solar is a type of powder that is used one the nails. It is stronger, lasts longer and you dont have to get them done as often. The solar powder can be used over your real nails and it can also be used over tips that you add to your nails. I have long nails naturally, but I prefer the look of the tips w/the solar powder.
