Nails and Toenails

I'm not girly about this stuff, although I do my own nails every once in a while. How are you doing your nails? French? Color? Gems/beads/accents? If you do french on your nails do you have to do french on your toes? Are french toenails lame/old fashioned? Is there an "in" thing that everyone's...

So many questions! Please help Smiley smile

I just decided to try out some pastel Shellac colors to figure out what I may want to do for my wedding. I know I just want to do a solid color that isn't nude or white. Ideally, I'd like to do a pale blue or periwinkle shade to coordinate with my wedding colors, but my most recent trial was with Salmon Run and I love it. Good backup plan if I can't find a blue I like.

I had planned to do a basic French mani and pedi but my girls talked me into doing red gel on both (I had never had a manicure ever!). My bouquet and shoes were red. I loved how it looked, but hated how it made my nails look/feel after getting the gel off.

If you didn't like the gel, try shellac. The shellac removal process is a lot less painful than than gel. Look up some shellac removal videos on YouTube- it's very simple and painless and a completely different experience than gel.

I'll probably do a light pink. Maybe some glitter in it. French is always a good choice but just not me

Gel and shellac are the same thing.

@karen if there's something painful about getting gel polish removed then your nail technician is doing something very wrong. Consider switching salons.

No- gel and shellac are different. Shellac is when CND Shellac brand is only used, and their removal process only takes 5 minutes. Also the shellac just comes off easier than gel.

Karen - as a cosmetologist, I can assure you... Shellac and other brands of gel are exactly the same. They are all soak off gels. Some wear better than others (in my opinion, Gelish tends to last the longest). All are designed to soak off in 10 minutes, not 5 - including Shellac, per their training materials.

The only true difference is that some brands cure with UV light only, whereas others cure with either UV or LED. I prefer the latter since it is safer, faster (15 seconds vs 60-90 seconds suggested for UV gel) and prevents unnecessary exposure to UV light.

Shellac currently only offers a UV based system. I dont think its worth the extra UV exposure over LED gels like Harmony Gelish. They do have the "xpress" LED shellac, but its not a true gel and doesnt have the durability of true gel. Thats why it soaks off in 5 minutes.

I did a classic French mani on my hands. So timeless and pretty, IMO. I personally don't like French pedicures. I think it looks weird on toe nails! I did a pretty light pink color on my toes

Lmao, Riddell!! idk what these people's nail techs are telling them to convince people shellac is some mystical product different from gel. soak off gel is soak off gel... and i reeeally hate the express shellac. i tried it at a hair show last year and its SO POROUS. it seriously sucked up every haircolor i did for 2 days afterwards and looked nasty (5n ombre nails FTL). ive never had that issue with regular gels.

@Niki Maybe people are confusing Solar gel nails with the gel shellac polish? Solar gel is a thing right? I could be wrong, but I believe that's a whole different process. I have never done it, so I'm not positive

I'll probably end up doing a dark color but I get a manicure every week and am very into different colors.

If you don't normally get them done I would go with French or something light.
