Nail Color Doubts

Gail, on June 20, 2021 at 1:01 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 16
It's Saturday night and I am getting married Monday evening. I never do anything with my nails, but decided last week that I wanted my mom and I to get our nails done today. We got gel manicures and I sort of panicked when the manicurist asked what color I wanted and just said "nude or neutral." I just wanted something that looked nice but didn't distract from my ring, bouquet, etc. It looked all right at first, but now I am looking at my hands and just feeling awful about the color. I think it looks like muddy clay silt? I wish it were more an off-white, something with gold tones, or even a light blue. Should I find someplace to go tomorrow and have them removed or replaced with a different color? Or am overreacting? Maybe I am just not used to having my nails done and the color is okay. Or should I let it go, because ultimately I know it's a tiny detail among so many more important things in a wedding and marriage.

Thank you for your advice.

If you really don’t like it, definitely have a redone. Your hands will be in pictures. But otherwise it looks pretty.

You should feel nothing but absolutely beautiful and confident on your wedding day and if that means changing a little detail like your nail color then so be it! If it is something that's going to bother you then I say it is very worth it to go somewhere to get a new color. It is such a quick and easy fix as well.

If I do get them redone, do you have any suggestions for color? A lot of the bridal nails I saw on Pinterest were some kind of pink, which isn't really my color.

My dress is ivory and my ring is white gold with an aquamarine. I'm wearing my mom's pearls and gold-toned hair pins.

Or should I just get them removed, since I'm not used to them and might feel most comfortable that way?

I think you’re overthinking the color. It looks good to me but you’re the one that has to be comfortable with it. How about a French tip or something clear with a little sparkle.

I think they look great but I’m going to do a sparkly French for my nails because it’s crisp and clean!

I felt awful about my nails once I left the salon. I stressed so much about it. I contacted them right away and they let me come back the next day and she fixed them.
It may be a small detail but if you don’t like it let them know and see if they’ll fix it. If they won’t still have it fixed even if you have to pay. So as soon as possible this morning.
For what it’s worth they look nice. They don’t scream bridal to me. But even if you don’t have it changed it think it’ll be fine.

Get a color you love. If you don’t love them, you’ll be hyper focused on it. You don’t want to be distracted or trying to hide some part of yourself in pictures. Nails in and of themselves are a small detail, but you feeling comfortable is a big detail!

If you go back I’d have something in mind, but also know you can take the time and talk to the manicurist for advice and look at and compare a couple different shade options. There’s plenty that would go. A sparkly gold. A classic neutral French. A super light aquamarine. A pearl-y toned white with shimmer. A plain white with no shimmer. If you want to get them removed and are not comfortable with a color at all, you could still get a clear coat so they look their best with a nice shine to them, so they’ll look clean, special, and ‘done up’ but won’t be distracting to you.

I agree with you that it looks like a clay color and, honestly, it just isn’t a very flattering color in general. But it’s an easy fix to get a color change. I think a light champagne color would be nice or french tip. But if you aren’t used to having your nails done, then I’d stay away from blue or any other color that noticeably stands out.

I think they look nice! If you're wanting ideas if you do end up changing it, This is a neutral one I used as inspiration for a wedding I was in, I had my nail tech do silver instead of gold though, it was subtle but pretty.

Thank you everyone for your advice! I ended up going somewhere else today to get them redone, and I am SO much happier with how they turned out. They look more like my natural color, with just a little bit of pop in the sunlight. 🥰 I appreciate your encouragement to make sure I was comfortable with even the little details!

Oh they look SO much better in the new colour. I like the colour of the old but totally get what you meant for your wedding day. The new colour is a perfect understated neutral, especially for someone that doesn't have their nails done regularly.

You know OP, so often in life we try to let go of little things that bug us like this because we feel bad or like we wasted money or whatever, but it is SUCH an easy fix, and why be stressed about something so easily resolved on your wedding day.

Which... I'm in Australia so ahead, but your wedding day is already here where I am! Wishing you so much joy and happiness, and congratulations!

Great choice! I'm coming to this thread late and absolutely agree that the first color was dingy looking and this is much better. I never do my nails, so always go with a pinkish nude sheer color (or French tip the one time I got them professionally done). These nails are perfect for the "natural but better" look!
