Mystery gift

Colleen, on July 25, 2019 at 7:08 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 10
We got a gift off our registry. However we did not know the name that it was from so I checked the registry to see who bought it, I of course know the person who bought it it is a family friend. However what do I do about a thank you card? She had her name no where on the gift. I only know it is from her because I snooped.

    Still send a thank you?
Obviously you're allowed to look at your registry and see who sent stuff especially if there was no name...

But why would she not put her name. It’s so strange. She is closer with my sister. My sister gets is out of town. Low but I will call
    her this weekend. And ask.

I would send a thank you note. It was probably inadvertent or maybe she assumed you would find out from the registry.

Maybe she forgot to put her name? I've done that before.

Is your registry through amazon by chance? if so she could have purchased through someone elses account (maybe to get free shipping) and it just auto sent with his name? This actually happened to me. My coworker bought us something and it came addressed from his wife but it was because it was her amazon account.

If you know who sent it, send a thank you. We got a gift like that as well the other day. After my shower tomorrow I will check the registry to see if it shows who sent it so I can send a thank you.

I don't know who your registry is through but ours in Amazon and they provide a Thank You list for your thank you cards. None of our gifts from there have had any names with them. I think you are supposed to snoop so that you can still send thank you cards.

You didn’t snoop, you followed up. Gift notes get lost or forgotten to fill out. She probably didn’t realize it wouldn’t say anywhere it was from her! People CAN elect to have their name a secret— they have to specifically click something to do this, and in that case their name would appear as “surprise” or “hidden” when you check online . So, she obviously didn’t do this.

For a while i I thought my gifts from bed bath & beyond all oddly didn’t have names— on the packing slip it said *where* they were ordered from, but no name. Then one day I dropped a packing slip and realized on the other side there was a “gift message”! Not only telling me who it was from but also a sweet note— I had totally missed it!

In another instance I received a mystery gift from Etsy, no clue who it was from. I was so curious I messaged the seller to ask (haha and specified if they had wanted it a secret, I was fine not knowing, but in case it wasn’t, I wanted to know)— she was super apologetic because apparently the gift message for some reason simply had not printed and she didn’t notice ! The gift wasn’t meant to be a secret, the sender had in fact include a note which just didn’t arrive.

Err rather, on the BBB slip the where was that it had the billing address and name, now that I’m remembering, but it almost screwed me up bc some gifts were from a couple people (and I didn’t realize bc I only saw billing info), and one was from a name I didn’t recognize at all bc the person’s store/billing info was in their maiden name that I didn’t know!

in these instances there was a note that I just didn’t see , but in many cases ordering online , making sure to specifically write that it’s from you is easy to forget! I’ve certainly been guilty of this.
