my wedding was Double-booked!!

Hello, I come here for advice and help. My wedding was double-booked and I did not find out until the morning of my wedding day. I bought my wedding ceremony and reception at the same venue in May of 2022 to get married in October 2023. They claimed to be an all-inclusive venue, and my husband and I loved the place its a garden and the perfect spot for the outdoor wedding we dreamed of. As time passed we noticed that the all-inclusive was a lie. We hired our own photographer and videographer, florist, cake, and dance floor and ended up renting a tent for the chance of rain. Which the owner of the venue convinced me to get it a day before the wedding. We got married on a Saturday and Friday night she did not show up like she had promised and I noticed other colors and decoration was set up and i called her. She lied saying that it was a small party and they would leave at noon and my wedding starts at 3pm I should be fine. Saturday morning she arrived at 11 am none of my decoration was put up, the other party where in the same house as me getting ready, when I confronted her truth came out and she didn't do anything to help the situation. She did not hire enough people for both weddings. This caused my wedding to start and hour late, they left all my guests out in the cold, no cocktails or appetizers were served the dj she had hored the night before and the "dj" I had spoken with was at the other wedding. This ruined our first dance and teh rest of the party because he refused to play music we requested. dinner was served after 7pm after more then half of my guests were gone. My guest arrived at 3pm to be starved until 7pm. This was a nightmare I have reached out to them left reviews and they are ignoring me and not refunding what I rightfully deserve. I am devastated my husband and I planned for this wedding and dreamed of it since we were 16. the more I think about it the more I hurt. These people took complete advantage of us and now were just being ignored. I honestly cannot afford a lawyer with the wedding as you guys can imagine, we used all our savings.

Sorry that the venue created so many problems for you.

It may be a pain to do and also requires learning stuff about evidence, but you could do a small claims case. You can ask Bing AI or another system for tips on small claims. Essentially though you have to prove a problem happened.

I would definitely leave an honest review on any pages they might have- ww, the knot, yelp, google reviews- saying what you said here so that other people can learn from your experience. It's really upsetting that you had to go through that experience, but at least other people will know better

Some websites preserve the bad reports while others will edit those out of the vendor pages. So, check to see where the information remains among the reviews. Also, again, you need to have stuff documented lest someone accuse you of just making up bad reports. It may work best to have it like "they seemed to agree to being only my booking but then there was another wedding at nearly the same time." On the other hand, you are in better shape if you have really solid evidence "it said in this contract ... and I got this confirmed in an email ... but it never happened on the wedding day where I have pictures"

Hello! I’m sorry this happened to you. I worked in civil law for 12 years and I would advise you to go to your local civil court and inquire about filing a Pro se lawsuit for breach of contract. Filing fee is about $55 and you can even file a petition called in forma pauperis to have that fee waived. Just make sure you compile every bit of proof you have as exhibits. If you have questions on how to word the lawsuit or other specifics, you can find templates online, plus there’s free info on Nolo.com and other sites. If you have a really specific question you can DM me and try to help. Full disclosure I am not a lawyer but was a legal journalist and my beat was civil law.

Another option would be to pay a lawyer (newly minted would be cheapest) to write the venue a strongly worded letter. They will think the attorney represents you and a lawsuit is imminent and often this will make them give in. You can find listings on your local bar association’s website.

A friend prepared legal papers for people going to court (and also for lawyers) by doing a contract to prepare papers in accord with the specific legal guide for that type of case. In that way he was not giving legal advice but was using the guide's legal instruction.
