My Wedding dress barely zips.

Alexus, on September 24, 2020 at 1:17 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15
My wedding is in 9 months and my dress is already a bit too small. Would it be cheaper to buy another i got the dress for $500 or to get it let out?

Yes. Depending on your dress, but corset back could be added on most dresses. Many brides are asking to have corset back just for the look.

Have you thought about trying to lose some weight? Or alterations? I think they’ll be cheaper than buying a new dress.

I would call local alteration places. I got my alterations done super cheap from someone local. They should be able to let a dress out or take it in two sizes without much difficulty, depending on the style of the dress. Locally owned places tend to charge a lot less than big businesses, of course it depends on where you live as well. A corset back should be easy for any experienced seamstress.

Is the belt removable? I actually ordered a different belt for mine because I didn’t like the pearls on it. My seamstress added plain straps instead of the pearl straps that came with the dress so that it would match better. If the belt is removable, a seamstress may be able to add extensions if you’re worried about it also not fitting.

I think an experienced seamstress should definitely be able to make that work. I would contact some and see what they say.

My friend’s seamstress removed and reattached a lot the beads on her gown. It’s possible, but it takes more time.

Definitely bring the dress to a seamstress first for their opinion on what can be done, along with an estimate. They may be able to simply let the dress out a bit, or it may be way more complex. Then go from there: if alterations will be too expensive or not possible without completely changing the look of the dress, look into a new dress. Otherwise, have the alterations done if they're in your price range and can be done in time.

Depending on how detailed your dress is might be cheaper to buy a new one (if it's the same price as the first one) but I would wait until you get a little closer to the wedding so you know what size you'll actually be. It would be really annoying to either have to buy a third dress or realize that the first dress actually does fit when you need it to so didn't need to buy the second dress in the first place.
