My sons giving me away?

Future Mrs.Hall, on July 12, 2014 at 10:02 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

My father only came into my life 10 years ago since my parents divorced shortly after I was born i didnt even know him. So for him to "give me away" at my wedding is kind of weird and meaningless to me personally. I have 2 boys 14 and 8 who are my WORLD. I was thinking of having them give me away to my FH instead of my father. Since they are the ones who have the biggest impact on my life and choices Smiley smile (They absolutely love my FH!) Ive never seen this done before because its typically the MOB and FOB .

What do you guys think? Is this a dumb idea? Honestly PLEASE ! Thank you in Advance!

I think this is a really sweet idea. I've definitely heard of people having their brothers or uncles walking them down the aisle if their father wasn't there and since your sons mean the world to you id say go for it!! Are you inviting your dad to the wedding? If you are I would talk with him and tell him whatever decision you make so he doesn't get too offended.

I think it would be so sweet! I'm having my two sons walk me (19 & 22) because I wanted them to be part of our day but since we're not having a groomsmen/bridal party, we thought this would be a great alternative.

I think it's amazing! My friend didn't have her dad walk her because he was never around and they don't get along. She walked solo.

I think having someone important to you walk you down, whether it's your child/mother/cousin/brother/grandparent/whoever, is better than having an absent or distant father just because it's the norm or expected.

I also have 2 sons who wil l be giving me away. They are a bit older than yours, 23 and 25, but I dont think age matters unless they are so young they couldn't understand the meaning of it.

My photographer did offer this advise: dont have both of them hook their arms through yours as it will look like your being forced down the aisle. So I'm holding hands with one and arms hooked onthe other side with the bouquet.

    Good luck and have fun!

That's a great idea! (My dad passed away in 2007, but we weren't too close so I'm not sure of he would have escorted me or not).

My son, who will be 9 1/2 at wedding time, is walking me down the aisle. He actually requested to! He is so into it! Now, whenever we walk somewhere, he extends his elbow to escort me. :-)

Not a dumb idea at all...my boys who are 10 & 6 are walking me down the aisle & then will go stand next to FH & be his "best guys" :-) My boys absolutely love my FH as well & they can't wait until we get married!! My 10 year old said to FH the other day "mom has become the best mom ever since she met you" :,-)

My dad has passed, and even though I love my stepfather very much, I am having my 12 year old son give me away. I think it's symbolic of him giving his permission/blessing of the union. I'm just struggling to find a song for he and I to dance to!

My first marriage - many years ago, I had my older brother give me away, my dad died when i was very young - so never had the choice. This time round My 34 year old son is giving me away on September this year - my 31 yr old daughter is going to be my Maid of Honour and my future step daughter nearly 22 - has two roles to play - she is going to be a bridesmaid and her dads "Best Man" We have two little grandsons between us- a nearly one year old and a nearly three year old - who will be our little page boys. Our top table consists of us and our childrens other halfs.

I think it is a wonderful idea to include all family / daughters / sons - i am so looking forward to our day.
