My Ring Is Ruined

Taarna, on March 24, 2020 at 1:50 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 11

Hey Everyone! So my dear sweet 1yo pup decided my ring would be a fun chew toy while I was asleep. It had to have fallen off my finger as I was wearing it last night. I was waiting to get ring insurance until we got my wedding band and my finace's ring, so now I have no idea what to do. I have all the stones, but the band appears destroyed beyond repair. I really have no idea what to do and my wedding is only 3.5 months away. I should also mention we are on a pretty tight budget as we don't make a lot, so this is pretty devestating because I knew he saved for a long time for it. I have no idea what to do at this point. Any advice?

Hold onto the stones, and talk to a jeweler about recreating it. Typically, the stones are the most expensive part.

Not ideal, obviously, but better than nothing.

That may be what I end up doing. My fiance bought the ring online and that company doesn't seem to do repairs or anything like that which I find rather odd. I did contact a cutom jewelry company to see if they'd be able to recreate it or at least use the same stones and create something even better, I'm just worried at the price point. I may go to some local jewelers to see what I can have done. Thank you so much!

Yeah I would look into a few jewelers then and just buy a new band and use the stone you already have to mount it.

    Oh no! Smiley sad

Definitely hang on to those diamonds, take everything to a jeweler. They will be able to help you. Maybe purchase something small to "replace" your ring until it is fixed.

This is absolutely devastating and I'm so sorry to hear Smiley sad Unfortunately I think your only option is to go to a jeweler. Typically the stones can be the most expensive part, so it's good you still have them. You may be able to go back to the same place your fiance bought this ring or try a different jeweler, they may be able to design the same thing and give you some credit for the weight of the metal. Maybe you can find a different area to cut costs in to make up for this?

    My Ring Is Ruined 2
My engagement ring fell off my finger one morning when I took out the trash and I didn't know until little later while i was at work. Then I searched everywhere for couple of weeks and after all the snow melted from the storm, I was walking my dog and happened to see something gold and shiny, sure enough it was my ring. I dropped down in the street hysterically crying and called my fiance who was in class at Law enforcement academy. I went to the jewelry store where I got it, and luckily I had just got coverage on it since I just had it resized and got it back right before it fell off my finger.
I was so happy they were able to replace it. When I went to pick it up, I was informed that It wasn't supposed to be replaced at all because the coverage was only for like ring sizing and replacement of lost diamonds but not actually replacing a destroyed ring but somehow my ring replacement "fell through the cracks".

I'm so grateful that it was replaced. If I was in your position, i would gather all the diamonds you can and go talk to the jeweler and see what they can work out for you.I'm sorry this happened and I know the feeling.

Definitely take everything to a jeweler and see if they can recreate it and get a size down so it wont fall off again.

In addition to all of the advice given, look into getting the lose stones insured. If you end up getting a replacement ring while you figure out how to get your original ring replaced, insure that, too. You can always add more jewlerly to an existing policy. I'm so sorry this happened, and I hope you find a good solution soon!

So I don't know if this will work for you depending on where you live, but it worked for me. My ring also got crunched (no idea how). My fiance's family is Vietnamese and so we took it to a Vietnamese mall in Orange County, CA. A jeweler there basically replaced my entire band for $70!! Like, they literally cut off the part with the stones and remade an entirely new band with new gold and welded it together IN AN HOUR. It looks brand new. $70, I kid you not. They winced when they told me as if they were afraid it would be too expensive. I had to try hard to keep a straight face. Absolutely amazing.

Update: Found a Goldsmith in Washington State that does an incredible job and he's offered to do it for (based off photo so just a rough quote) $100-$200 which is much less than I was expecting. I really appreciate everyone's help and thank you for sharing your stories. It's so good to know I'm not the only one that has freak things happen. Haha! 。◕‿◕。
