Hey ladies,

So I super duper had my heart set on a photographer. She was just wonderful, did our engagement photos and my FH and I fell in love with her. But her wedding packages were just out of budget, and there's nothing that could be done about that. (We splurged on the venue/catering... and I personally splurged on my dress.) Regardless of my wedding taking place on a Monday, and only being 3 hours long, it was still coming in over $2K, so I just had to turn her down. Smiley sad

Well thankfully, I had a super awesome option to fall back on a second photographer that my MoH used for her wedding 3 years ago. Her prices have risen none at all since then, and she agreed to our IDEAL price! I'm looking forward to putting the deposit down with her a few weeks from now, once we are super sure we're hiring her and are ready to spend the money. Well, she had one weird request. (Weird to me that is, maybe it's normal.) But she asked for us to feed herself and her assistant that is coming with... Is this normal protocol? And if so, does someone really pay their caterer for an additional plate? (In my case, it's over $160 per person for food...) or is there another way to compensate them a meal?

This is just so weird, I feel like. It's one thing to pack a lunch and take a food break, but it's another to require that we provide a meal. Maybe I'm just over thinking it, I panicked when I thought about the $$$ - And how overdone it would be to include her in a full night's worth of catering, when I assume she'll only take like a 30 minute meal break.

Anyways, what are y'alls thoughts?

Yes this is normal. Your caterer likely provides meals at a discounted rate for the vendors - ours is a third of what everyone else costs. We are providing meals for our two photographers, videographer, DOC (she's getting lunch and dinner), DJ (he didn't ask for one & it isn't in his contract but we're providing), and my HMUAs (I am asking them to stay and provide makeup and hair for my second look). Our officiant is staying for the reception.

This is expected. I will be feeding 8 vendors: 2 photographers, 2 videographers, 2 DJs, and 2 wedding coordinators. Anyone who works all day gets fed.

My DJ and My Photographer and her assistant were both fed at our wedding. It's common courtesy

This is standard language in a vendor contract, and you do have to feed them since they're working all day. My hotel offers a reduced price for vendors $65 per person, since they won't be partaking in cocktail hour, no liquor, the actual sitdown dinner, and cake. We were offered the option of serving our vendors, either plated meal of whatever the chef made extras from our wedding dinner, NY strip steak or sea bass vs a buffet dinner. We chose the buffet, it gave the vendors a 2 hour window to eat at their leisure in the green room, and not force them to eat whatever was leftover. They're getting a great spread, salad, chicken, fries, pasta, meat and cheese board, and dessert.

That's the etiquette. We had a different menu for the staff including photographers and the sound crew.

We are feeding both our photographers and DJ's. It's in the contract, but we were going to do it regardless. Could you imagine working an 8 hour day and not getting a lunch break?

This is pretty common an in my opinion cruel not to feed them. especially the photographer who is with you all day. With that being said they are not included in the per person count and you aren't paying extra for them. If its a buffet then the wedding planner should either make them a plate or instruct them to make a plate. if its plated then they will get the leftovers from the caterer.....There is always leftovers. If there is not the caterer is cutting it too close and potentially running out of food for your guests. So to sum up feed every one of your vendors but do not include them in the count.

Saw after i posted this that you got it for $50 a vendor. Can't delete post only edit. $50 is better than full price.

It's the norm. I think it's weird too but it's just what is expected. It was in our Djs contract but not our photographers I was just going to plan on feeding both. Ask your venue about vendor meals a lot of times they are cheaper.

I know! So weird.. I mean obviously everyone expects a lunch break, and that's obviously not the issue. But it's odd that I'm expected to serve them. Thankfully my venue has a $50 vendor meal, but still. Holy cannoli. We all know you'd be packing a less expensive meal if you were bringing your own. But hey, perks of being a wedding vendor for a living lol.
