My own mother...

April, on March 10, 2020 at 12:44 AM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 7
Hey!

So I am just starting on wedding planning and going to go look at dresses and venues this weekend. My own mother doesnt seem to want to be part of the process. She gave us money for the wedding. She love my future husband. When I called her and told her she seemed excited. I texted her the plans so if she forgets she could look at it.... and now it feels like she doesnt want anything to do with it. Just hours later.

Does anyone else have similar problems with trying to get your parents to participate in the planning?

I felt that way. I think it's my mom's way of not getting overly emotional. I called her to tell her we were engaged and she blew it off. Later she told me how excited she is but that she had known for so long and its hard "losing" her oldest and the whole growing up process. She has waves of being excited and happy and not seeming interested. Stick it out! I'm sure she is happy - but you are her baby!

My FH's parents are a bit like this. They're very reserved, so when we told them we weren't sure if they were really excited. But there have been moments when I can see how excited my fmil is - she designed the seating chart background for me without hesitation. It's been really nice to include them in small ways. Give your mom time- she may be processing. My dad was a bit shocked at first, but now he's planning to drive down here if flights get cancelled.

My mom wasn’t really into the planning either. I think some people just aren’t as interested in the actual logistics of it

My mom came dress shopping with me, but aside from that, our parents didn’t really have anything to do our planning. It wasn’t really disinterest, they just wanted us to do us and let us have our moment and plan the event we wanted. It’s all about perspective. That they weren’t involved doesn’t mean they weren’t excited! As it got close it was more palpable, but in the early planning stages, it just isn’t as much. Newly engaged you’re really running on excitement adrenaline, and those outside of the couple just don’t have that same rush, as happy and excited as they may be.

My dad is exactly like this! I think parents are overly emotional with this. Haha.
