My officiant

Kiona, on July 24, 2019 at 7:39 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 4
We are 3 days into our engagement. Although, we have been planning our wedding for 2 years, my FH and I have been deciding who we want to officiate the ceremony. My friend is ordained and looking forward to being there. Here's our issue, my friend is happily married to another man. My dad, well my dad is homophobic. What are your thoughts on us wanting my gay friend officiate our wedding?

I mean.. what's your dad going to do? Be totally opposed to it, be insensitive to him, etc? It sounds meaningful to have your friend do it. Your dad just needs to be polite and tactful. It's not like your dad has to be your friend's friend.

Yeah I don't see why your officiants sexual orientation would matter if he's your friend officiating your wedding and you don't have a problem with it. If you want him there then have him do it

I definitely wouldn't worry about it. It's not your dad's wedding and if he disapproves then that's too bad for him. If you want your friend to do it for you, there should be no reason at all to keep you from doing so.

Hey Kiona! Welcome to the WeddingWire community!!

If you have a friend in mind that you would love to officiate your wedding, then that's great. What's most important is that you and your partner are comfortable and happy with your officiant on your wedding day.
