My Morganite chipped! Experiences from other Morganite wearers?

Cristen, on May 3, 2018 at 8:50 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

Looking for fellow Morganite wearers here!

I was beside myself last night when I realized that my Morganite engagement ring stone had chipped. Yes, I know what the Mohs scale is and that beryl isn't as hard as a diamond. I also don't wear during sleep, cooking, gym, or any other hand-heavy activity. Luckily we have insurance, and I'm considering changing to a sapphire for a few extra hardness points - but the colors just aren't the same Smiley sad

I'm wondering what experiences others with Morganite rings have had? Have yours chipped? Have you never had a problem?

Sorry about your ring...I have had my morganite for a year and a half and I do have a tiny nick on it on the side, only I can see it since I am always staring at my ring and I do have some light scratches on the top which again only I know are there. With that said, I was aware that this could happen so I was prepared for it. I have a halo which probably helps to protect it some. I love my ring and will not ever change the center stone because the shade of pink is exactly what I wanted. It is pretty inexpensive to replace so if it gets too rough looking, I will get a new morganite stone and I have insurance on it too. I got my ring from Julia B on etsy...she could help you pick a stone that is maybe harder in the color that you would prefer.

How visible is the chip? That must be so frustrating.

I didn't even really think about this since my first engagement ring was a diamond. I'm pretty rough on my hands. I don't have any nicks on my ring yet but it's also in a halo so I bet that helps. I was worried about losing a side stone not damaging my centre!

Thanks. I might start taking it off at night after all.

That must be so frustrating! How long have you been wearing it? Do you know what you were doing when it chipped? That's such a relief that you have insurance

I have a tiny little chip on the side of mine, which like the other poster, only I can see. I wear my ring for everything and never take it off. I'm a store and deli manager so I'm always hitting mine against something. I wash dishes in mine and operate heavy equipment and land scalp work in it also.
I'm quite pleased that I've had my ring for a year and there's only one tiny chip in it. I wouldn't change my stone at all, I love the pink color that it is against the rose gold it's set in.

I wanted a Morganite for my engagement ring because they're gorgeous. But my parents own a jewelry store and they told me that this is super common. They said most Morganites have to be replaced every couple years unless you're insanely careful (or aren't concerned with scratches or nicks). I'm super sorry yours scratched. That's good you have insurance!

I have a peach lab sapphire that I am absolutely in love with and it is a similar color to morganite. I would highly recommend.
