Help! I want to wear my mom's veil but it is 3 shades darker than my dress and it is 37 years old! How do i change the color safely?

You might try bleaching it. Martha Stewart has instructions on line for how to do the bleaching.

Have realistic expectations - bleaching a 37 year old piece of delicate veil could have damaging consequences.

Can you incorporate pieces of the veil into a new creation? Perhaps the crown or cap is still usable, or flowers/lace from the original?

Yeah the last thing i want to do is damage it. I think im going to go to a tailor and see what they say, i could use her lace but its still way too dark.

I would take it to a reputable dry cleaner.

I would take to a reputable dry cleaners. I’m incorporating my moms veil in other ways since I couldn’t get the color closer to my dress color.

Consider using it in your bouquet.

My own wedding dress was nearly 60 years old...belonged to my mother. She had it in her attic for over 25 years, not cleaned or preserved. I had it professionally cleaned and it came up a beautiful champagne color, and wore it for my wedding in 1987. I then had it cleaned and professionally preserved, just in case.

We knew it would not fit my daughter properly but she wanted a piece of it, so we unboxed it two weeks ago. The preservation didn't help it - the dress was not in very good shape color-wise. But, it was perfect to slice up and make a ribbon to wrap her bouquet.

So...she'll have a piece of 60-year old wedding dress (worn by her mother and grandmother) with her when she walks down the aisle. Just as special...
