My MOH's dress is in... and 4 sizes too big...

NJ Bride, on July 19, 2011 at 7:59 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5

She's tiny... size 0 and they still probably had to take it in from that... she sent me an email today saying that they got her dress in but they accidentally ordered it 4 sizes too big! (I assume that means an 8, which just means someone misread a 0 for an 8... easy enough to do.) Anyway... I feel badly 'cause I just started laughing. (Thank goodness she sent an email!) My wedding dress had a stain on it 2 weeks ago when I went to try it on... dresses just aren't going my way, I guess. She's really upset over it, understandably, but I'm just taking it in stride. Smiley smile Anyway, she says that she hopes they'll take care of the cost to alter it - which I completely agree with. (The dress took 3 months to come in... with less than 2 months to go, it's too late to get a new dress.) Has anyone had to handle something like this before? Were alterations taken care of? (She has a receipt saying size 0, so it's definitely their fault.)

They should be able to put a rush on that dress and get her the correct size... that is silly!!! She should NOT need to pay for the alterations, and I hope it still looks good when then alter it that much and it doesn't change the overall look, fit, or proportion of the dress.

Especially since she has a receipt that says "0"

And that fact that your dress, that should have been in a bag protected, got a stain on it while sitting there... I think they owe you.

My wedding dress had been sitting in the store since December (when I tried it on the first time) and for all I know the stain was on it then... it's on the back by the zipper so there's no way I'd notice. Smiley sad They said they should be able to get it out and if not, they'll cover it with an applique that matches the other ones on the dress... as long as it doesn't look weird, I don't really care. So many other things to worry about, as long as I'm the only one who knows it was there, I'll live.

But my MOH is really freaking out. Even though she had the choice of 7 dresses, she picked the only "typical" BM dress. As a result, I think it'll be easy enough to alter without looking weird.

Anyone who actually knows anything about alterations have any idea if that'll look okay after being brought in?

I didn't know that Mori Lee made a size 0. When I worked with their dresses, the smallest size available was a 4.

A good seamstress should be able to take the dress in at the sides top and zipper, if she needs about an inch in at each side, and some in at the zip. Bra cups will help too. The tricky part will be in reattaching the skirt, taking it in so that it will lay smoothly. But again, an experienced seamstress will be able to handle this without any difficulty.

Do not go to a dry cleaner or men's tailor for alterations. They tend to be butchers with bridesmaid dresses and charge too much. The seamstress with the full service bridal shop where you purchased the gown is usually the best choice, or a sometimes a seamstress that makes gowns that is recommended by a fabric store.

She's going in for a fitting Saturday and I assume will get the alterations done in the bridal store.

Let's hope they cover it and do it well! Smiley smile At least because she's my MOH if it looks terrible I guess we can try to find her a completely different dress.

I would hope that the dress shop would take care of the alterations at no cost to your MOH.
