My live music cancelled on me!

Rachel, on November 8, 2020 at 8:01 AM Posted in Planning 0 10
I am freaking out now! My fault, lesson learned, I didn’t have a written contract. However they never gave me one. He has his own website and when we were out eating at a restaurant one night, we heard this guy play. During intermission, we asked if he played for weddings and he said yes, gave us a price verbally and gave me his card. I emailed him, he raised the price which we agreed upon. Haven’t heard a anything since. I reached out a week ago and now he wants DOUBLE the price and I said no, he should honor what we agreed upon and now he cancelled! So now I’m sitting here and can’t change anything, so I guess what I need to do now, is bring a speaker to the ceremony and play my wedding song. Did you have your day of wedding planner press play and stop the music etc for this? How are you planning to make that work? Thank you!

Always always get a contract. If they don't give you one ask them for one. If they say they don't do contracts then you tell them you must have a contract or else you can't do business with them. And always double check the wording of your contracts. I made everyone doing business with me for my wedding give me a contract if they didn't do contracts they lost my business. I even have contracts with my friends who are working for me at my wedding. I see it as if I'm paying you, no matter the amount or who you are we will have a contract or I'm not hiring you. If you have a day of coordinator, wedding planner or even have a family member who can push the play button for the ceremony. I see a lot of people do that.

For our minimony my husbands friend was in control of the music. For our big wedding the DJ will be in control of both the ceremony and reception music

Couldn't you look for another live performer or a DJ?

We have a DJ that will be in control of that & yes we have a contract with him.
Since you have a budgeted amount already, have you tried looking for another person or a DJ?

Unfortunately the musician was never truly booked. But, as you said... lesson learned. As for music on a speaker, do you have a wedding party that the wedding planner is having to coordinate for the processional? If so, having them also responsible for working music at the same time isn’t ideal. Do you have a DJ for the reception? If so, ask if they can assist. Otherwise, you can always hire another musician since you still have until mid-January.

The venue had a room captain whose staff had set up the dining room next door. He used a remote for the lights, to cue music for singers/ musicians, and used a remote to tirn the player pn for one thing. He also used a remote to see to the uplighting, and vary the volume of recorded music when the band was on break, and after they finished.

Try Thumbtack.com or thebash.com . Get a written contract before you do anything. A verbal won't protect you.
Do not pay the other guy a penny.

Our DJ handled our music. I also recommend looking at Thumbtack. We found out bartender and our photographer on there and they were amazing.
