My hair and makeup team canceled

Lori, on June 28, 2021 at 4:55 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 1 10
Hello!
Does everyone have any advice, my hair and makeup team just canceled and it is two months before my wedding. It seems everyone is booked up due to covid rescheduling and I can not find a replacement. I have called and emailed so many places. Panicking about this!

I'm sorry they did that to you. My best suggestion would be to start trying regular salons. While they may not specialize in bridal HMU, most regular upscale salons offer event styling as a regular type of appointment. As a backup, do you have any friends or family that are just generally good at hair and makeup? I know it's not the same as professional, but with a few good practice sessions maybe someone can help you out.

I saw this happen with only a few DAYS to go for one bride on a facebook group I'm a part of, and some of the members did a shoutout to local makeup artists to help out. She found someone that way.

Are you part of any local wedding planning groups on facie? Maybe they could help!

If you haven't yet, you might look on Thumbtack. My daughter found her videographer there just 6 weeks before the wedding.

If you have a wedding planner or venue call them ASAP and see if they can help you find a replacement. I've heard of some brides calling Sephora and booking their wedding makeup through their makeup artists and having a salon do their hair. I'm sorry they canceled on you! Good luck!

    Hi Lori!

New Hampshire bride here as well. I ended up doing my own makeup and my friend helped with my hair. We had a Covid elopement last year and the salon I used really screwed me over so I opted not to use them this year for our wedding celebration (my logic was "I can disappoint myself for free"). Honestly, I think my friend did a better job than the pro who did my hair last year!

I think there are some sound suggestions from the other ladies on here.

I would definitely inquire at salons whether you can get a HMUA to do a look for you on your wedding day. You might not be able to book a "bridal" appointment, you may have to drive to the salon instead of having an HMUA come to you, and you might only be able to schedule yourself and not your whole crew, but its worth a shot.

I would also ask around among your friends and family if there is anyone skilled in doing hair and makeup. My friend who helped me did not have a ton of hair styling experience, but used to do dance as a kid and felt pretty confident that she could help me with my look, especially because I could "mostly" do some of the styling on my own and really needed help just pulling and pinning all the back pieces together so that it would actually stay put. I wanted a loose, textured, romantic updo so there was some room for imperfection in my look, which helped. She lives closeby, so she came to my house the week before the wedding where we spent hours "practicing" on my hair, we then swung by the drugstore to buy some things she thought would help, and on my wedding day she absolutely nailed it.

With two months, you should still have enough time to get more comfortable doing your own look if necessary. There are a ton of helpful tutorials on YouTube. I absolutely love Lainey Marie Beauty's hairstyles because her looks are easy to do on your own head, don't require complex tools or accessories, and just take a few minutes. I practiced a bunch of these prior to our wedding trying to figure out which ones I liked best. There are also a lot of wonderful makeup tutorials.

Also, it might be worth seeing if there is a beauty school near you or your venue. There is a beauty school in town and a more advanced student might be skilled enough to pull off your wedding day look but not have a calendar full of clients yet, making them available (and affordable) for your wedding day.

    Good luck!
