My father walking me down the aisle

Alexis, on January 8, 2020 at 7:55 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9
My father is not someone who like to dress up. In fact if never seen him in a suit or a tux. My issue is I'm having a black tie wedding and he want to wear black pants and a black polo shirt. He really feels embarrassed when wearing dress cloths so do you think it will be okay if he is in polo at my black tie wedding to give me away? I hate it but I dont want to make him uncomfortable.

Maybe happy medium is nice slacks and a button short sleeve? I think it could be comfortable yet a little business casual.

I think that's a personal decision to make. I have never seen my father in a tux and he's wearing one at my wedding. Yes, he's super uncomfortable, but he is doing it for me because it makes me happy and that's what matters to him

How long will your ceremony be? if it short, he should wear a suit and then change into whatever he wants. but, if it is long... that is your choice.

in the end of the day, it's your wedding and it should be perfect and perfect is whatever you find blissful.

If you're okay with it, I think the slacks and polo are perfect if that is what will make him comfortable. It's refreshing to me that your love for your dad and concern with his comfort are MUCH bigger than your concerns about appearances -- that can be rare on this forum sometimes. Good for you! Couldn't have said it better myself. It's your decision but putting your dad's comfort above your aesthetic choices is so heartwarming. I say let him keep the polo, it will still look great. Smiley shame Smiley heart

If you do, that highlights their pettiness and lack of manners.... Again, based on reading a million posts on this forum, you and your attitude are a breath of fresh air! Congrats for staying focused on what's truly important when it comes to a wedding. Smiley heart

I imagine the ceremony will be half hour or so. But I'm going let dad decide what he wants to wear. As long as hes there thats all that matters.
