My father passed away, but my future mother in law wants a mother son dance

Hi everyone!

My fiance and I are having a small intimate destination wedding in Puerto Rico (30 guests). We have told family and friends that this wedding is going to be anything but traditional. There is no bridal party and no rehearsal dinner. My father passed away last year. My fiance's mother called him last week and said she had someone make a mother son song for them to dance to. She did not take into consideration about even asking if we were going to do a mother son dance and just assumed. I feel like it's going to be very awkward that they will have a dance, but I will not be able to have a dance with my father. At the same time, I don't want to take that away from them. I asked my fiance if he wanted to dance with his mom but he's not sure and doesn't have an answer right now. Is there ways to make this feel less awkward if we go forward with a mother son dance?

    So sad for your loss.

Sometimes a brother or other significant person, even a mother, can step in here. If you have a DJ or other person announcing details, this dance arrangement can be announced in honor of your father.
