My engagement ring is making me itch :(

Not sure if this post is in the right group or not lol first time posting.... So recently my engagement ring has been making me itch. I got engaged on April 22,2019 and didn’t have any problems for awhile, but now, it’s making me itch. I went to Zales about 4 weeks ago I think (that’s where my ring came from) and told them about it, they cleaned it, told me to make sure I do not get any moisture near it, take it off when I’m washing my hands, etc. it helped for a couple of weeks and now the itching is back. I’ve also had to have a re-sizer put in the meantime because I’ve lost so much more weight since being proposed to (I’m getting it re-sized soon) I thought that could be the culprit and I took that off just now.. has anyone ever had issues with their engagement ring being itchy? If so, what did you do to get this solved? I’m not sure if this is an allergy or not either...

Sounds like an allergy! You should see if you can find a stamp inside the ring and it'll tell you what it's made out of. People can be allergic to hold and silver but more often than not are allergic to whatever is mixed into a ring. Nickle is the most common allergy.

Definitely check what it’s made of, an allergy seems the most likely culprit. I can’t wear 10k or 14k gold without having it itch like crazy after a day or so. We learned that the hard way when I got my ears pierced as a child. I can tolerate most metals for about 6-8 hours, but beyond that most cheaper metals start irritating my skin. My grandma has the same issue and pits clears nail polish over her rings and earrings- I’m not sure I’d do that with an engagement ring though! Good luck!

Is your engagement ring white gold? It sounds as though you may have an allergy to the nickle. I work at a jewelry store and often have customers come in complaining of rashes on their fingers. You could try getting your ring rhodium plated more often or even consider switching your setting to either platinum or palladium which are both hypoallergenic metals. Hope this helps!!

I have nothing else to add except its rare but you could have a copper allergy. If you have a rose gold ring it could be the culprit.

Also as others have said metal purity is important. If the ring is made of recycled metals it could be alloyed with base metals you could be allergic to
