Disclaimer: This is a long post.
My step mom agreed to make my dress back in March. She’s a really good seamstress and she’s made all my sisters/nieces prom dresses. The last time we spoke (in April) I’d told her if there was anything she needed from me let me know, she even asked me about a specific pattern I wanted on the dress. She also told me she’d be going to the fabric store to get what she needed.
Well, last week I’d checked in with her to see how everything was going & her response was ‘so are we doing the dress’ 🥴 I’m not sure where she got the impression that we wasn’t. I called her and she’d told me how she just lost a close cousin, she’s grieving so on & so forth. I explained to her that I’d rather her not to do the dress bc I understand she’s going through a lot plus with my wedding being the end of July, as time is of the essence.Long story short, she hasn’t started on the dress and she said she’d still be okay with doing it for me. I live in Texas and she lives in Illinois. I asked her how long would the process take, especially since she hasn’t gotten the fabric. She told me I could come to Illinois the end of June to try the dress on. However, I don’t think 2 weeks is enough time for her to make the dress. Especially with the dress I want her to make. She said when she gets in her mode she can sew a frequently to get it done. I want to call her today and see if the fabric has come in or if she has it. If not, at this point I’d rather take a loss with the money I’ve given her and try to find another dress. Is it too late to get a dress? Like, if I were to go to DB today and find a dress would the alterations take longer than 5 weeks? I’m not sure what to do.
