My dress looks used, has stains, snags, and tears??

Heather, on July 7, 2020 at 10:35 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22
So, I FINALLY got to pick up my wedding dress today! What should have been an exciting and AWESOME day, and turned sour and sad! I have had issues with the shop I bought my dress from (lack of communication, dress didn’t arrive on time, and she canceled on me last minute the last time I tried to pick up the dress). So today I showed up (no idea what to expect) and she hurriedly hands me a garment bag with my dress in it and says she doesn’t have time for me to try it on. I thought that was weird, but figured I would try it on at home later and I knew it would need alterations as I’ve lost 30 lbs since I ordered it. But when I got home and took it out of the bag, it was wrapped in some plastic with tape... had no tags on it... and the more I looked at it the more I saw wrong. There were makeup and ink stains inside the dress, the shoulder strap was tearing and another tear at the bottom of the zipper, as well as two snags on the front of the dress that are visible and obvious. Keep in mind - this dress was supposed to be a BRAND NEW dress, that had been shipped from Pronovias in Spain AND it wasn’t cheap!

I immediately emailed the dress shop and requested them to call me ASAP, and I emailed Pronovias customer support. But I’m at a loss and don’t know how to proceed. My wedding is in 6 weeks...
Has anyone else dealt with anything like this? I am almost 100% certain she gave me the sample dress and tried to pass it off as new....
Please help!!!
- A bride in distress!

That is unacceptable! I hope they come up with a solution for you or that this was really just a simple mix up and that your actual dress is there and all clean

I really hope it was a mix up! Today was the first day I broke down in tears... through all this Covid-19 madness, the 4 different wedding plans... change of date... etc. I’m just at a loss...

Try to handle it calmly, but if there's funny business/it wasn't a simple mistake, I'd for sure sue them. I'm so so sorry. Please update!

I’m praying that they mixed up your dress with a sample sale dress. Not cool and not okay!

I agree with Ashley, sounds like they gave you the sample which is unacceptable. What did customer support say?

I’m sorry I know you don’t want to hear this, but you should have never left the store without inspecting it. Did you sign any papers before you left?

But since we are past that stage, I would go right back down there in an uproar. Forget being nice and forget having an appointment. It’s unacceptable. Make sure you take someone with you. Being nice is appropriate when you have made a mistake, or there’s a simple mix up or you are trying to get a sweet deal. This absolutely ridiculous and a waste of your time. You paid for merchandise, it’s dirty and torn and I know it’s not what you paid for.
Who tells a bride they can’t try on a dress because they don’t have time? That’s the whole reason for you going down there. I sure hope they fix this for you. You don’t deserve that!! Keep us updated!

Go back to the dress shop, with the dress, and ask to speak to the manager/owner. That is unacceptable and needs to be fixed immediately. I would not leave that store until you speak with someone with authority.

Have you heard back from Pronovias? I can almost guarantee they do not want a dress shop selling their brand that tries to pull crap like this!

I am also hoping this was just a mixup and they didn't mean to send the sample home with you. Because it might be a simple mistake, I wouldn't call or go in angry. But call the shop as often as you can until someone picks up and then explain what's wrong. Are they open with regular business hours (not just by appointment)? If so, visit in person as soon as possible. Don't let too much time pass.

This doesn't help you now, but this is advice if for anyone who hasn't picked up their dress yet: Never leave a store without visually inspecting the merchandise you paid for! Once you leave, you have far less leverage.

OMG! I am so sorry this has happened. Honestly I don't think this was a simple mistake. She clearly rushed you out after giving you the dress for a reason, and now you know why. I hope you've already gone back to the shop by now to get this taken care of. A phone call wouldn't do it for me, I would show up in person unannounced and demand to speak to a manager. I hope everything works out in the end, please keep us updated.

I feel very angry for you.

I hope you have a good outcome, but I have a bad feeling that either they never ordered your dress, or ordered it too late, which is why they’re trying to pass off the sample as your dress. Completely unacceptable. Have you been back yet?
    Please update when you can!!

Hi everyone! Thank you soooo much for all of your support. I STILL haven’t heard from the shop. I emailed them asking for someone to call me within 24 hours (I did that at 6pm last night). I just sent a follow-up email 😩 unfortunately they are currently only open for appointments and I have no idea when someone might show up there. I also haven’t heard back from Pronovias... my fear was also that due to Covid-19 the dress didn’t make it here on time and so they thought they would pass off the sample dress as the real thing. Which is completely unacceptable. In my mind had they been honest with me and tried to make it right somehow, I could understand. But this is just crazy to me!! Hindsight is 20/20 and had I known to force her to let me look at the dress before I left, I would have. I never signed any paperwork before I left and I’m praying that helps me somehow. I feel so naive! What makes all this worse is that she claims her mother was in a terrible car accident and was in the ICU (which was why she missed my first appointment to pick up the dress) and when I was at the shop to pick up my dress she told me her uncle passed away last weekend. The caring and empathetic side of me wants me to remain calm and understanding through all this. But the frustrated and at-wits-end side of me is saying she is lying and trying to distract me from what was really going on... 🤦🏽‍♀️

Anyways - I will update you all once I hear from them and have some resolution!
In the meantime, I hope my situation helps teach other brides not to make my same mistakes! Hopefully someone benefits from all this.
Thank you all a million times! The validation from you all makes this situation easier to deal with.
    ❤️ Heather

If the shop really can't deliver the correct dress to you, will you have enough time to buy something new? I can't tell when your wedding is because your profile says you got married in 2017. I hope you have enough time to make this OK.

Oh weird! I’ve never been married! My wedding is on August 22nd. Just 6 weeks away... the dress I ordered was being made in Spain... I doubt they could get me the dress I ordered in time. I will most likely have to find a dress off the rack that fits me...

I have heard there is a great seamstress near me that has a 2 week turnaround for wedding dresses. Granted, that sounded a little too good to be true - has anyone heard of a turnaround that quick?

Would you feel uncomfortable just showing up at the shop? I know they’re only doing appointments only but if it’s a known shop I’m sure you can walk in there to catch someone on a Saturday. Please keep us posted!

Hi everyone!! I just wanted to update you all - I’m wishing I had been more graceful! 🤦🏽‍♀️

It turns out it had been a mistake and she was SUPER embarrassed! Another bride had bought the sample dress, so she had wrapped it and they were both ready to go when I picked up the dress. She just handed me the wrong one. I’m still not 100% convinced that’s the whole story, but I’m trying to assume the best!
I have my real brand new dress, which is flawless, with tags!
Thank you all so much for your support through that madness! I hope you all are making it through these trying times!
    ❤️❤️❤️
