My dress is so tight!

Kathleen, on April 10, 2016 at 11:38 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18

I'm about 6 months out until my wedding and I just had my alterations appointment today for my wedding dress. Now the first time I put it on my dress was defiantly tight on top but I fell in love with it and had to get it. It's a beautiful Vera Wang A line strapless that has a tight fit all the way to my hips then goes out to a full gown with a lot of layers. I'm a size 6, skinny but when they put it on me today it felt like I was wearing a corset ( ordered the size I tried on) Difficult to breathe but the longer I had it on the more used to it I got. This worries me a little. It's the prettiest dress I've seen and is totally me. They recommended before the wedding just to sit in it and watch tv to stretch it out a bit. Anyone else have this problem? I paid too much and I really don't want a new one. I'm just hoping I will be so wrapped up in our day that I will get used to the tight tight fit.

Gorgeous! Not that it helps with the tightness question, I just really wanted to see it!

Can the let it out a bit? Try wearing it for an extended period of time, sit, dance, put it on right after eating and see if you can breathe... You don't want to get light headed at your wedding.

Defiantly not! I know I'm already going to be super nervous the last thing I wanna do is pass out from not being able to breathe. Hopefully I can just adjust and get used to it and maybe stretch it out a bit. I think this one for so much tighter than the one I tried on because it was brand new and the other different girls had been trying it on.

You look beautiful in it. Just reduce carbs to lose a few inches and you will be golden.

I'm no expert, but something tells me you can't just stretch out a wedding dress like a pair of shoes. You should take it to a seamstress and have it let out so you can function at your wedding.

I'd try wearing it around like they suggested. It could just be others stretched it out from all the trying on. You still have time, so if it's still not loosening up in a month, take it to a seamstress. They can sometimes let dresses out slightly

Loling as I imagine myself just chillin on the couch watching tv in my wedding dress...

Kidding aside. It sounds like you need it let out Smiley sad definitely wait until closer til your wedding though, you never know, cutting carbs could work. However, you're already skinny. Don't try to lose weight just to fit into your dress. If you want to lose weight, go for it! But if you're happy with your body weight, just get it let out.

Also, where is it tight exactly? It might just be your rib cage and there's nothing you can do about that. Just clicked on your picture in your dress and you are a stick!!!

The dress looks like a perfect fit. But, you don't want it to be so tight that you're not comfortable. I would get them to let it out just a little.

Pretty!!! If that's from DB they told me they can let the dress out a half inch... Is that an option?

If you ordered the size that you tried on the issue is probably that sample dresses are usually stretched out from being tried on. this isn't your fault and the consultant should have known this.

I would just have your seamstress let it out a bit. Comfort is more important so that you don't pass out.

My dress was so tight I couldn't breath when I picked it up from the store. But once I took that boob thing off that's supposed to suck you up and push you up it fit perfectly lol

Fabric stretches as it warms up from your body temperature so after an hour or so, it should loosen up a little bit. Plus, by then, you may not even notice the tightness.
