My dress alterations are wrong...advice please

Future Mrs B, on May 27, 2017 at 12:00 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

So I went to David's bridal and found the most perfect dress last fall. Had a great experience that day. I went back in the end of April for my fitting. The lady I walked with was wonderful. I had what I thought would be simple alterations. I needed the halter shortened, a sash tacked on, the hem shortened, cups, and a bustle. I loved the way she had everything done and was very confident with it. Fast forward to today the halter was not right enough, got that fixed. One of the cups was not right and you could see it, again that was fixed. Sash was not tacked well enough and tore of when I tried it on again tonight. Now to why I tried it on again. They decided to change the bustle completely without telling me. It is how I wanted it but didn't know what to say. They hemmed the under layer of the dress correctly but the organza overlay is now much longer than it should be and I trip on it. This is what caused me to pull the sash off. Finished in comments.

For what they charge for alterations you should bring it back and ask them to fix it...free of charge

Now the sash was only attached by 1 string in 3 spots. Now we decided to go else where to fix it. Do I contact David's bridal to reimburse me for meeting up my dress? Can they really change alterations without your consent? The way they bustled it there are pulls in the organza. I'm just very upset and don't know what else to do...please any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

@robin k I thought that but I'm so concerned they will make it worse and I'll have to buy a new dress. I told my dad I should go and show up with my dress and not leave until they fix it

Go back with the dress and your alterations agreement and speak with a manager. Tell them that this isn't what you wanted and they need to either make it right or give you a partial refund (the odds of a full refund are slim) for their shoddy work.

ETA: Don't go and threaten to not leave until its fixed. That will only escalate the situation and they could call the cops and have you trespassed. Use tonight to calm down and make sure you go in with a calm attitude. Worst case, you can throw out the lawyer threat, provided you do have an alterations agreement and can prove that they didn't uphold it.

I want to do that but they were so rude today, do I go back or fight for a partial refund? I'm so lost I just want it fixed.

The thing about keep ing it with David's is they can replace the dress, an alterationist can't guarantee it.

Does your David's have another seamstress? I'd be complaining to the manager

I agree with La Grosera. Go back and talk to someone. They messed it up, they should be able to fix it properly. Deep breathe, this will work out Smiley smile

This happened to one of my girlfriends who got her dress through DB. They ended up having to rush order her a new dress and start from scratch due to them hiring a new seamstress during the process of her alterations and the new lady didn't know what all the pins meant. -_______- They need to make it right or refund you for the alterations they screwed up.

Go back to David's with your dress before you take it anywhere else...they should be held liable

Do not take it elsewhere. Make DB replace the dress. Contact corporate. The corporate numbet is below. I had to when they screwed up a bridesmaid dress and told me some how I grew. Call another store if you have to. They ruined your dress. Another seamstress may not work on it.
