My curvy girls

So... I have a one year old and I'm 32. My "idea" of my wedding has definitely changed from what it might have been years ago. Ive got the old lady arms and a little belly from my daughter. I've always had a big butt and legs. I've always envisioned myself in a ball gown for that reason. But the more I've started planning in the last 2 weeks the more I realize like NO One wears ball gowns now. I've never been a trend follower with my daily clothes so not sure why the idea bothers me now. Any advice and or pictures from folks who maybe had the same apprehensions and what you ended up doing? I tried on and loved a champagne ballgown with white lace applique overlay. I also tried on a mermaid but all I could see was the pooch. Did anyone wear Spanx or anything? I thought about buying some and going back again. Pictures for what they kinda looked like. My curvy girls 1

Also any tips on the arm thing... Did you like long sleeves to hide them or a drop sleeve etc?

I personally love off the shoulder sleeves, it hides any chicken wing 😂

My suggestion is to go try the dresses in person, like you I wanted a ball gown and actually ended up with a dress I wasn't expecting. I ended up finding a dress that was so not my expected style and it became my hands down favorite and flattering my body type.

Ball gowns not being "IN" is exactly why I its my number one choice for my dress. I feel like every wedding of been to since I first got married (5yrsago) the brides dress is exactly the same. I few beads and different lace but same style. So be BOLD and go with that ball gown if it was your original choice, besides when are we ever gonna have another the opportunity to dress like a princess? Better yet a queen. Get that ball dress sis, you won't regret it.

A lot of brides wear ballgowns. I am curvy too with big butt and hips for days lol. I bought originally an a line which is also forgiving and I now have a ball gown. Considering since weight goes first to and leaves last from my lower body I like the idea of now worry about the dress fitting lower. I had almost considered a mermaid at first. I would say that dress pictures is beautiful and even a friend of mine who is thin wore sleeves for her wedding and her dress was beautiful. I say before making a decision try on various silhouettes because you never know what you may fall in love with. The dress I have not was everything I said I did not want but now I love it and I feel that is the dress to make me look bridal.

What?! Ballgowns are still in! Go for it if that’s what you really want. I fell in love with a ball gown and the only reason I didn’t get it is because I would be too hot.

Also the right fitted dress won’t show your tummy. I ended up going with a fitted dress and I have a tummy too. It depends on the designer and the shape of the dress. For example Allure, Maggie Soterro, and Martina Liana all make gowns for plus size women, but Allure’s fitted gowns highlight my tummy so much it’s ridiculous. It’s the way the way the dress falls; it’s just. not flattering on me. But Maggie and Martina fitted gowns look great on me and I ended up going with one from Martina.
Just be open and try on different things. You never know what will look and feel good on you until you try it on.

I think there are lots of brides who still wear ball gowns. Go with a gown you love. Don't worry about what others wear.

I love ballgowns! I didn’t end up going with one because I fell in love with my mermaid but I think they’re gorgeous. If you get one with a built in corset they tend to be a little more forgiving on the tummy area. As for sleeves, I personally went strapless because I felt sleeves made my arms look bigger but I think that it really depends on what you are trying to hide.

Best bet is to go to the bridal salon with NO PRECONCEIVED NOTIONS whatsoever. I found a dress that was 100% not what I thought I wanted but I put it on and the heavens opened up and the choir of angels sang out, "This is YOUR dress!"

Also, girl, you better be nice to you! Old lady arms? You're 32, and a hot mama! Don't limit yourself to what you think you SHOULD wear Smiley heart
