My Caterer is North Carolina is not refunding us

Our wedding is next week about an hour and fifteen min out of Asheville. Unfortunately hurricane Helene hit and caused mass devastation. I am heartbroken for everyone going through this. However our venue had minimal damage and the event is going through as planned per contract. All of our vendors are good to go, except the caterer based out of Asheville. It took them almost two weeks to decide if they could still do the event. We offered up the venue kitchen and changing the menu to assist, as we know they had suffered a loss of their storage unit with their equipment. They kept declining saying that they don’t have their equipment. All this is totally acceptable and understandable due to the situation. They finally told us they couldn’t do the event a couple days ago and are giving us a catering credit. We live out of state, a catering credit is not feasible. We still have to pay out of pocket for a new food for the reception. I’ve pushed back on it and they are adamant that their contract says no refunds. However, they are not providing the service the contract is agreed upon… I’m not sure how to proceed. It’s thousands of dollars. The contract does say that if they cancel due to an “act of god” that deems the venue unuseable they will give a catering credit. But the venue is not unuseable….. does anyone have any advice on how to handle this. We even asked them if they could talk to their insurance company and they told us any money they get from insurance will be going back into their equipment. If they get insurance money for revenue loss and still keep our money, isn’t that a problem? I just really can’t afford to lost that much. Thank you.
