My Brother Can't Come To My Wedding!!!!!

TheWrightGirl, on January 22, 2017 at 10:31 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

A few weeks after being engaged, I found out from my brother that he will no longer be able to attend my wedding. He is currently serving in the USAF and was told he is being deployed in July and won't be back until sometime in December. Of course I'm very sad that my brother can't attend and be a part of my wedding, but I also understand that the military has first say over his location at any given time. I wasn't able to find a thread regarding live streams so I thought I would ask if anyone has done a live stream for their wedding. I just want him to have a chance to at least see the ceremony since he won't be in attendance. Does anyone have any experience with doing live streams?

My brother is in the marines and if this had happened to us I was going to have a cousin sit near the front with an iPhone and FaceTime it to him . But he was going to be on wifi access ... if your brother is somewhere with spotty reception or doesn't have access to a device right away have someone bring a GoPro and then upload that to him. (This almost happened to me. Sorry he can't come!)

Yes, this is a concern for me because I don't know if he'll have access at the moment of the ceremony. Time change is a huge factor as well. I never thought about FaceTime or GoPro, that's definitely something to consider. Thank you

One of my best friends got married while I was deployed. She had another friend take a few short videos and send them to me. I was working when it happened and had crappy wifi so live streaming would not have been an option...plus I don't even know if that was a thing back then. but I did enjoy getting to see the videos when I was able.

We are going to do this for my grandma. We are doing a dw and since she is very ill she can not travel. So my dad is going to set up skype with my FH hotspot and my uncle is going to go to her house and make sure it's up and running and stay through the wedding invade something happens he can quickly fix it. I totally get the idea of wanting them there. The thought you are taking to try and include him is awesome!!!!

Until he gets his printed orders it could still change, Hopefully his deployment changes and he can share your day with you. If not Skype is always an option! Both of my brothers are Army and we have skyped them into so many important occasions while they were on deployments

Take a video if you can and send it to him. Also is there the option to move your wedding? Sounds like he'll be back 6 weeks after your original date?

Thank you for that input. It really helps hearing from someone who was deployed and was on the other end of the ceremony. i feel so sad that he can't be here and what's even harder is that his wife and son are a part of the wedding, but she is extremely scared to fly alone without him. They currently live in Alaska, so a flight to Ohio would not be a short one, especially with a child. I'm hoping that everything will work out for the best so that everyone is involved.

We thought about moving the wedding date, but we wouldn't know when to schedule it until he did get his orders and I don't know when that would be. But @Ms.G could be right. His orders may change and he may get to come. I'm taking all solutions right now and all advice is welcome.

My best friend's hubby's best friend was deployed for their wedding. She set up a laptop and had him skype in for the speeches as a surprise for hubby.
