My alterations experience (so far)

Toni, on September 21, 2019 at 8:40 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5
Today I took my dress in for alterations and I was SO excited. I bought my dress online so my mom, sister, and best friend tagged along so they could be part of the ‘dress experience’. So when I got there I was taken back to a little room with a couple chairs I told the lady I had some people with me and she said there wasn’t any room for them to come back..so I get dressed and the lady begins saying things like “hmm” and “wow” making me feel super self conscious. Eventually I asked if we could add buttons down the back and she said “you don’t have a flap for them so they’ll look weird and off center” and I felt so sad that’s all I really wanted to add to my dress. I eventually got her worn down on the subject and her coworker jumped in (trying to help maybe?) and she says “adding buttons will make your dress less plain looking!” Nice. She pinned a few buttons on and actually asked my family to come back for opinions. I personally felt like she thought they would talk me out of getting them. When I finally got her to agree to add buttons she said she didn’t have any to use so I would have to go buy them and bring them to her which also sucked.

I had her hem the bottom of the dress and my sleeves and when I asked if we could adjust the bust she told me that she couldn’t due to the fabric being polyester which is probably true but it still seemed odd? Idk about that I’m not a seamstress. I just kept getting this weird vibe that she didn’t want to work on my dress.

I was pretty underwhelmed with the whole experience and i am now freaking out that I’ll pick up my dress November 30th and something’s not going to be right. Ugh the stress of it all. thanks for reading my rant for today 😭

I would find a different person. She doesn't sound interested in working on your dress, and especially not making it what you want.

Go to someone else. It's one thing to give their professional opinion (we cant/shouldn't don't because...) but I would consider this totally unprofessional.

I would also agree with the PPs here and say it sounds like someone else would be better for this job. someone more fitting in the sense that they're more excited and communicative.
