Must Have Shot List

Mandi, on June 21, 2019 at 1:58 PM Posted in Planning 0 6
What are some of your must have shots? I'm going to start working on a shot list soon, but I want to make sure that I don't miss anything. (Or most likely, be too over the top so that everyone thinks I'm nuts.)

Not sure if it helps, but I’m providing photographer with actual examples of inspiration photos that we would like, instead of a written list of shots. Of course our poses don’t have to be identical to the photo, but it gives photographer a good insight into what you like.
We did this for our engagement shoot & it worked so well & our photographer actually really appreciated it! I do think it’s easier for photographers to look at visuals than at a long written list, as they are typically very visual people.

Iva makes a really good point. I am a photographer and it is more helpful to have visual examples and or your verbal descriptions than a list. Whatever is on the list can be different to you than it is to the photographer.

That being said, what would you and FH have to have captured? I ask because these things are very personal. I may want a shot of FH and I lipslocked and being carried whereas you may not. Having a look at the photos on here has helped us decide what kinds of poses, subjects/items and surroundings are most important to us.

Yeah, I just make a Pinterest board for this & load it with all photos that I really like, then I show them to my FH to make sure he’s going to be comfortable posing for all my photo ideas lol & then we print it out & give it to photographer. It helps a lot to organize it into sections: getting ready, first look, ceremony...

My photographer and I shared a Pinterest page and that helped and anything else I found I sent it to him. Make sure you have a list of all
photos and someone that knows everybody and can help keep things moving along. Good luck!!

There are some very specific photo opps at daughter's venue. The coordinator literally has 1000s of photos on an i-pad for brides to look through. Based on that, daughter knew where she wanted the photo of her dress hanging, she knew she wanted a photo of her in her dress pushing the double doors to the ceremony site open, she knew they wanted couple's pics at the waterfall, etc. As others suggested, she forwarded examples of those pics to her photographer, and he got all of them. In addition, he'd never shot at her venue, and he took pictures that the coordinator had never seen before and she's now added those to the i-pad portfolio! Come up with ideas, but also encourage your photographer to use their artistic genius! Smiley winking Smiley heart
