Hi!

My fiancé and I are getting married at a state park on Oahu, Hawaii. I’m really unsure about what to do when I go down the aisle. Do I play music? It’s outdoors and I probably won’t have a professional hookup for speakers. We could probably play some Hawaiian music on a personal speaker but not sure how that would turn out. Or we could just leave it silent. Would it be awkward?

We faced this same issue with our location. We contemplated getting wireless outdoor speakers, but we were too worried about the wi-fi going out, or some sort of technical difficulty during the ceremony. Plus, that would also require one of our guests to be in charge of playing the music, keeping track of what song goes to what part and when, etc. and we didn’t want to put that on anyone. There were just too many “what if’s” for us. After brainstorming, we decided the best/safest bet would be to hire a string quartet. Maybe you could have local musicians play. A ukulele would be cool in Hawaii!

We’re having the same dilemma. I think if you want a processional song you should find a way / test it before hand. You really only have to worry about Bluetooth connection nowadays because songs / music can be downloaded to our phones, devices.

We’re going to test it next week when we visit our venue for the first time.

Can you hire a soloist? Ukulele would be amazing! Or guitarist. He/she could play for the ceremony and during cocktail hour.

We’re trying to keep costs low so we won’t have a cocktail hour or reception, just dinner or lunch at a restaurant after!

I went to a silent wedding at Bellows Beach on Oahu. When the ceremony was ready to start they had everyone gather together on some rocks. The bride and her father came up behind us and "walked down the aisle," and they were married! Super short and sweet. Gorgeous couple and the wedding was so fun. Just a beach BBQ to follow.

    Hi Blaine,

I heard that it might be possible to hire some music students from UH for ceremony music. Maybe think about posting something on the UH message boards? Not sure how to go about it logistically. I understand that you are on a tight budget, but maybe with the environment right now some vendors may be offering a discounted price on bookings. We are using Oahu Strings for our ceremony music. Hope this helps.

We hired a solo musician just for the ceremony, he’s going to play before the ceremony as guests arrive, processional, music during the ceremony and possibly a recessional.
