There will be a ceremony cocktail hour
Snd a buffet diner We wanted to have only strings playing the whole time . Is this acceptable or will people be disappointed that there is no dancing music

I think this is a "know your crowd" type of thing. If your guests aren't usually big dancers then I don't think this would be an issue. If you do still want some dancing music without paying for a band/ DJ, you could look into getting a speaker and hooking up a phone that would play a playlist of songs you pick out.

Are you planning on having a reception? I think it’ll be fine for the ceremony, cocktail and buffet. But it depends on how long it is as well. They might not be disappointed. But it also depends on your guest.

It’s a know your crowd thing. Many weddings don’t have dancing and they are just as fun as one with a dj. But they only last 2-3 hours at most while guests eat and socialize.

Any gathering following the ceremony is a reception, whether it’s cake and coffee or dinner. Dancing is not the sole definition of what a reception is as all weddings have receptions but not all receptions have dancing. Do what works for you.
