Music People!!!

P, on August 12, 2019 at 2:24 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 2 4
For those of you who are music fanatics, what songs are you going to play? For aisle, first dance, cocktail hour, etc. I’m over analyzing everything and can’t seem to decide. I am hoping for some original songs versus the songs we always hear at weddings. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

What is your style of music choice normally? What about FH? And your parents? His parents?

    As a fromer DJ:
    1) Make a list of your top 10 most played songs
    2) FH makes his top 10 most played( Amy duplicates remove for other songs)
    3) Let guests have a say! Ask what is one song they’d like to hear played. Add to the list.

    4) During Dinner it should be slow romantic songs, popular and instrumental work best.
    5) Cermony should only have entry and exit music, to let your vows carry. You can go classic but it sounds as if you’d prefer to be “out of the box”. Look at the popular songs instrumentally done by “Vitamin C” or “The Piano Guys”, “Mannheim Steamroller” has some nicestuff too. For a Celtic side “Maggie Sandstone” is great!
    6) Cocktail hour slow/mid tempo- can be variety of genres and ages. You won’t be there as that picture time for you- best time for those guest request of slower stuff!

    hope this helped

Having really good music was really important to us. None of that boring "elevator music" played in the background type thing. We had specific songs picked out for the important things (ceremony, grand entrance, first dance, cake cutting, etc.), and also provided genres and song examples of what we would like to hear at different points of the ceremony. This is what we provided:

    Prelude-

    "Better Place" by Rachel Platten

"Like Jesus Does" by Eric Church

    "Everything" by Michael Buble'

"Bless This Broken Road" by Rascal Flatts

"Count on Me" by Bruno Mars

    Ceremony-

Walking in of the Grandmothers and Mothers- "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong

Processional- "Can't Help Falling in Love" by Elvis Presley

Bride's Processional- "At Last" by Etta James

Unity Ceremony- "God Gave Me You" by Blake Shelton

Recessional- "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" by Stevie Wonder

    Reception-

Wedding Party Grand Entrance- "Rock of Ages" by Def Leppard

Bride & Groom Grand Entrance- "For Whom the Bell Tolls" by Metallica

First Dance- "Danny's Song" by Loggins & Messina

Cake Cutting- "How Sweet it is to be Loved by You" by James Taylor

Father/Daughter Dance- "I Loved Her First" by Heartland

Mother/Son Dance- "Find Your Wings" by Mark Harris

Last Song- "Closing Time" by Semisonic

I feel like I keep repeating myself but my favorite part about planning this wedding was making the playlists. While I think I picked some great songs to get booties shaking on the dance floor, I'm most proud of the cocktail hour/dinner music. I chose some really beautiful indie songs like You Are Mine by Spencer Combs and Holley Maher and Take The World by Johnnyswim. But my favorites are the acoustic covers of songs I love like Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic and I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) by Sleeping At Last and Boom Clap by Lennon & Maisy, I'm also loving A Million Dreams by Pink.

My guests also had requested some songs so I played those throughout the reception
