Music Options

HeavenlyBride, on December 30, 2014 at 8:48 PM Posted in Planning 0 22

Good Evening Everyone,

Quick question: What type of music service did/will you use for your wedding and why? DJ, band, iPod, etc. I am trying to decide. Thanks!

Since our location is in the White Mountains, We will be using our laptop and we will be plugging it up to speakers.

We are going to be using a DJ so that someone can introduce us when we walk in to the reception, the cake tasting, first dances, etc. and so that music that people know gets played and they are more likely to dance. I like bands, but I think after a few songs it just starts to sounds the same; but that's my personal opinion. We decided against an Ipod because we would need someone to press buttons and be in charge of introducing us and that seemed like too much that might go wrong.

We don't want an intro or any type of big announcement unless its for direction people where to go so we are going to do an ipod. I know a lot of my guest taste and we all like to dance no matter where we are so we won't have a problem getting the dance floor started. However a lot of people don't have a crowd as easy as mine so a DJ would come in handy. I would be doing that if I wanted a big grand entrance and stuff but I would rather save the money for something else since I know I can do this myself. We don't need a dance floor or lights so one isn't needed for me.

We are doing a string trio for the ceremony and cocktail hour. I would have done a string quartet but went with the more budget-friendly trio Smiley smile I chose live music for the ceremony & cocktail because I think its just so timeless and classy. It fits our outside ceremony and venue (historic mansion).

We are having a DJ for the reception. A band really wouldn't be in our budget anyway, but I think a *good* band is very hard to find. I like that a DJ can play a variety of different music and also keep the party atmosphere going!!

A DJ isn't in our budget so we will set up a playlist & put someone in charge of selecting the music at appropriate times for like first dances & all. I am trying to find someone to play acoustic guitar at our ceremony, we have a few friends that might be able, if not, we can do the same there as we are doing for the reception.

Laptop... it's super small in private room of a restaurant and I picked music that will cater to all my guests we don't need an introduction or announcements and we are skipping the "traditional" bouquet toss, garter toss, cake cutting (we don't eat cake)

For the ceremony we are having people to sing, play the keyboard and saxophone (family and friends). The cocktail hour and reception will have a DJ.

Our DJ made our entire wedding. IMO would never cut that from the budget. An ipod just can't get people excited!

We are having a DJ for the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception. I went with this bc I was in my best friend's wedding in October and he was fantastic and very professional. He really knew what he was doing. He did much more than the music. He made sure individuals were on the floor if someone was requesting a song for them. He worked with the chefs to make sure he could have people dancing until the food came. I just picked him because I knew what I was getting when I hired him, instead of going with a DJ who I haven't seen do a wedding.

We had a DJ-- he really caught on to the lighthearted feeling I wanted, and he kept things moving-- I was such a laid-back bride, I could have gone through my whole reception and forgotten to cut the cake, throw the bouquet, etc., but he kept us on track!

One of my friends use a band for his wedding because he loves the feel of live music but it is the most expensive option.

I am using a DJ since it was in my budget. I am not a fan of the ipod option just because someone has to stand over it and basically monitor it but it is the most budget friendly of them all. One of my family member use a ipod for the cocktail hour and a DJ for the reception to save money.

^Very good idea. At my friend's wedding, people had to get off the dance floor whenever the band took a break. Using the ipod during band's breaks would allow people to dance all night.
