Music for the Ceremony

Deborah, on July 27, 2015 at 12:37 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

My sister told me that it would be overly dramatic and "corny as hell" if I walked down the aisle to Annie's Song by John Denver. Here is a link to the song:

What would you think if you were at a wedding and the bride walked down the aisle to this song?

I need help thinking also of a song for our tree planting. Instead of a unity candle my fiance and I are doing a tree planting. We just pour water onto the plant. I can't think of a good song for that.

I think it's a cute song. Wouldn't seem corny to me.

Try the songs section ('Songs' tab at the top of the page)!

I have tried that. I was underimpressed. Too much to look through.

Deborah, nothing wrong with that song at all - it's a lovely song!

Is your tree planting happening at the end of the ceremony, before the recessional, or in the middle. I feel like it would be a bit awkward to play 30 or 60 seconds of music while you water the tree, and then walk back to the officiant... but if it's right near the end, you could stretch the recessional music to begin when you plant the tree, and carry through (at a lower volume) to the pronouncement and exit.

Rather than think of a song for the tree planting that's about nature, I'd look for one that speaks to coming together, of family, or love... you could also look at Vitamin String Quartet, which -rearranges pop songs and 80's alt music for a classical sound that's recognizable and beautiful.

Ask your DJ or ceremony musician for suggestions?

It's your wedding, not hers, walk down the aisle to whatever you want.

I think it's one of the most romantic songs! Personally I have a thing for instrumental songs for walking down the aisle so I picked an instrumental version of a pop song for myself, but if you like the original version I see no reason why not to use that.

I would make sure to time it out to make sure that you don't end up with a ton of song left over when you reach the end of the aisle (do you want 1 song for everyone or do you want a separate song for you?). You might talk to your DJ if you're having one about fading it out nicely when you reach the end of the aisle.

Thanks everyone! Yeah, I have a 13 more months to plan it out. I just know my sister is opinionated. Sometimes her opinion is valid but sometimes - many times - she thinks her opinion is a general consensus.

Do whatever you want in that regard. I hear, "1000 years", "Marry Me" and "I Think I want to Marry You" (quite possibly the worst wedding song in history) every week, but guests love them.

Yeah, Marry Me is the worst.

Tell your sister to suck it! JK - except not really, because that's what I have to do with my sisters on a pretty regular basis. Practice my go-to phrase..."yeah, well I like it and FH likes it, so suck it." Seriously though, my sisters are the same way. I love that song though, and it's not overly dramatic! Go for it!

Do whatever makes you happy! And cool, we are talking about doing a tree planting instead of a unity candle or sand and planting the tree in our yard.

We are using a Mumford and sons song for our ceremony and our first dance.. Some people might find it over kill but it's not their wedding! You do what you love!

Lara - We are going to do a small tree as we don't have a yard. We live in a condo. But we are using soil from his parent's house where he grew up and I am doing one from either Plymouth Rock (as 12 of my ancestors came on the Mayflower) or if possible from the house my dad lived in when I was a kid or the one where he lived as a kid because I moved every two years.
