Music for small afternoon wedding?

Krystal, on September 20, 2016 at 10:57 AM Posted in Planning 0 13

Ok so we are planning on having a small (about 50 people) Friday afternoon wedding. We're doing cake and finger foods and wine at a hall. What are your opinions on music?!? Music,no Music? Dj, no dj? We don't have a huge budget but don't want our guests thinking were being real cheap, we have kids and our in process of buying a house so trying to keep it simple

With finger food in the afternoon, I think an iPod playlist is fine, really. People aren't going to demand that you prove the music is costing you money. It would be different if you were having an evening meal or dancing.

That's what I was thinking. I obviously still want to do first dance and father daughter dance but other than that, it's more background music.

Okay so here's my advice from someone with a small wedding coming up, and we're not doing dancing. It has been a COMPLETE PAIN IN MY ASS trying to figure out the DIY music. Here's the problem---you want a song to play as you come down the aisle, but how do you plan to stop that music? If you want a song to start as the recessional, how do you plan to start that music? There really aren't apps that can handle timed playlists and cut off music at certain timestamps (that we've found).

So, you really do still need a music person to handle the music. If I could make this decision over with, an ipod would still be fine for the reception, but wish to hell I'd hired a musician for the ceremony at least.

That's very try, I haven't considered that! It would be a problem during the ceremony. I guess that's something I could have set up where we do our bowels. That way one of my girls can push start and stop. That's a very good point though!

    Vows*

I would price out the DJ. Might be cheaper than you think because of Friday afternoon and shorter amount of time.

What about a musician or two? Violin or guitar or harp, etc.

We will do an iPod playlist for the cake/punch reception. I do have a pianist for the ceremony though.

I'll have to look into a musician for the ceremony. I want something more modern verses traditional.

I think an iPod may work best in our case, but I'm still going to look into a few other options as well!

Spotify is your best friend for something like this. You can set different play list and there is setting that will have the music flow into the next song without that awkward silent pause between songs. For 10 bucks a month you can have it available offline so the app can be used without any type of Data or wifi. I have it and I love it!

And if you wanted live music, try going to gigmasters.com and seeing if you can maybe find a solo acoustic guitar player who can play and sing in the background. I was originally looking into that before booking a full band and was quoted around 800 bucks for four hours. Which doesn't break the bank too bad. Im sure you can find someone in your area like that.

I didn't even think about spotify!! That was the main thing in was worry about, the breaks between songs. And the wedding is only about 50 people in the afternoon so I feel after the main dances, it will all be like background music

Is there a local college nearby? My friend did a small casual band from the local music program- they were really good and very cost effective. The college had a webpage of all different kind of musicians that were available for hire....
