Music costs? Sign or no?

Nicole, on January 10, 2020 at 12:53 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

Music costs (less tip) are going to cost me approximately $3500

This is:
Ceremony mic and audio setupString trio for ceremony and cocktail hourDJ for 6 hoursUplighting (20 lights in blend of color per my quest)Customized animated gobo
My grandmother started talking to people and they told her it was overpriced based on their Saturday weddings with us having a Sunday wedding and that I needed to go in person and see a DJ and the musicians, not go online. I saw footage online, talked to vendors, and read reviews or was recommended.
What are thoughts here?

Based on my location and prices for those types of services, that looks normal to me!

How did you decide on DJ? Did you meet with them prior?

I would expect about $600 for a string trio and $1-2k for a DJ

I think that's a tad pricey but I also think if you've gotten other quotes and it's around the same price then that's fine

For a string duet I am paying $800 for ceremony and reception. A total of 5 hours. They also do their own set up, have amplification, but no lighting! Hope this helps!

Based on everything you are getting I would say that sounds reasonable. It does vary by location and experience as all vendors do, so it might be worth it to get some quotes for similar coverage/services at least to compare and make sure it isn’t overpriced to put your mind at ease. I am only doing 5 hour reception DJ, with no additional uplighting, ceremony involvement or live music and my cost is $900, for my area this is slightly under average costs of about $1,200 for most reception DJs.
