Music advice - No pop/rap?

Frances, on February 23, 2013 at 9:35 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 3

Hello!

So, I am trying to get some momentum going on wedding playlist for the reception.

We are having a traditional catholic church ceremony, with reception in a music hall. One of the highlights of the reception is FH and my's favorite Irish folk singer, who will be performing traditional Irish/Scottish love ballads during dinner and dessert. He will also be singing the special dance songs (first dance, father-daughter, mother-son etc)

Then, we will be having dancing! But, I really am not a huge fan of contemporary pop/rap, and don't want bumping and grinding on the dance floor - it just doesn't seem "wedding-y" to me, personally. (Although I've been to weddings where it totally works for the couple's style!)

Plus, FH won't even dance to pop music while in uniform (found this out at Marine Corps Ball, ha)....sooooooo....is it okay if we limit music selection to "standards", oldies, some classic rock, jazz, swing, maybe top it out at the 80's?

thoughts?

We are having a mixture of everything but mostly 80's. I am a HUGE 80's fan. My son who is 7 loooooves Michael jackson. You should see him play it on the Wii lol. Anyhow, I don't HATE any type of music some I just am not fond of but we are playing a variety of everything. I really don't want FH 90 year old grandma listening to anything vulger or as you put it bump and grind music lol. I think we will save any questionable songs for the end lol. You want people to get up and dance and have fun so I would add a few of the cleaner pop songs just to get people up and moving. I am sure the 80's should cover that though Smiley smile

    My thoughts exactly!

my 75 year old gma LOVES to dance, and she and her brothers are GOOD! Smiley smile

So I want them to enjoy it as well.

I just feel like it's unexpected because we are 21/22 and our college friends will be there. Then, again, people know who we are...ha! Just should stop doubting my decisions Smiley smile

EXACTLY and I totally get it because I have second guessed everything but my FH lol. It's normal and remember that this is all about you two! You want your guests to have fun but at the end of the day it's you that will remember it forever. Smiley smile Oh and while you are getting married I will be at my bachlorette party. We almost picked the 7th.
