Mums as decor?

Sarah, on April 13, 2018 at 4:24 PM Posted in Style and Décor 1 13
Has anyone used mums as decor for a fall wedding? Especially as a part of centerpieces? I love them and I know they’re not expensive but I’m lacking inspiration! I’m going to hire a florist for bouquets but I think I would like to do the centerpieces myself if I can to save money.

I am! We are just getting potted mums for ceremony decorations then smaller ones for centerpieces. We’re buying them wholesale but going through a florist for bouquets, boutineres, and corsages. I’ve made them the whole theme of the weddings, from fall mum colors to painted mum place cards.

Forgot to add, for the centerpieces my aunt is helping me wrap them and add a ribbon, but that’s all we’ll need to do.

Hahaha sorry I had to look up mums to figure out what you meant. Mums is the British-English spelling of moms so I'm sitting here with visions of your mothers being an archway or something. Sorry, I have zero help, just having a bit of a giggle

You could do something like this. There are also pumpkins that would work with your sage green color.

Sorry, the photo got lost. I've tried to add it twice, but it isn't working. You could hollow out pumpkins and put a pot of mums in them. I'm sure you'll be able to find an image.

😂 actually laughing out loud over here! I tried to search for older forums about this too and a lot of the results that came up were people discussing their mothers

You should still get quotes from a florist for center pieces. I am providing the vases (growlers) and the flowers will cost 25 a table (that is for in the case and some on the table). The other florist gave me a similar cost so they arentexpensive. Just a thought. I'm trying to do as little DIY stuff as possible for less stress.

That sounds lovely! Ours will be red, orange, and yellow, but the emphasis is on the red ones to match the bridesmaid dresses!

I'm not sure of your style. But here are a couple ideas you could do pretty easily. Obviously in your colors, not necessarily the ones shown

If you can find an idea you like using potted mums, it is so much easier than getting into cut mums and flower arranging.

I have used this idea in various ways. Buy potted mums and place them into a container of your choice. Terracotta pots look great for fall, but with your colors you may want a tin bucket or a wood box. Add greenery and other flowers of your choice. The greenery can simply be stuck into the soil of the mum. The flowers can be inserted into florist tubes then inserted into the plant so it's not visible. You can also add berry florist picks.

You can't even tell that these started out as potted mums.

    You could also add branches
