Mummers String Band

Rachel, on September 6, 2018 at 9:53 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7

Hi everyone!

My FH and I are considering hiring a Mummers string band to play at our wedding during one of the band's breaks. His SIL is a Mummer and we're considering using her band but also don't want her to feel as though she has to perform with them so we may not... lots of factors to consider. Anyway...

Has anyone in the Philly area hired a Mummers band recently? How much did they cost and how long did they play?

I haven't, but I've spent New Year's Days on 2 Street and it is awesome! I love the Mummers! I think this is such a cool idea. I found an old Reddit thread where someone was quoted $500 for three hours for a three piece band. I don't think that's terrible, but that was a few years back and only 3 pieces.

I saw that as well and, as you mentioned, it's not quite what I'm looking for.

And yes, the mummers are amazing! We watch the parade every New Year's Day at the union league (where we're having our reception) and they all do a performance right out front so we thought it would be fun to bring in a nice Philly tradition to our wedding.

Is it a mummer-style string band you have coming?

Maybe I'm a little bit behind the times, but what's a Mummers band? And have you found one for your wedding, Rachel?

They are actors and musicians that perform in our New Year's Day parade and they're Philly icons. We haven't found a band yet but have some leads from his SIL (who is a mummer herself) and we're looking into cost Smiley smile

here's a link to one of their parade performances if you're curious! (first and second place this year)

For weddings they bring instruments and costumes but not sets. They usually play a little from their show and then interact with the bride, groom, and wedding guests!

Rachel, this is so incredibly cool!!! If you could get them to come to your wedding, that would be awesome, and I'm not a huge fan of people in costumes!! You'll have to tell us how this turns out because I really want to see pictures of mummers at your wedding and also it's something you really want, so you should have it on your wedding day!! Smiley smile

I'm sending you all the good vibes so those leads will play out!!
