Multiple "catering vendors" ?

Cassi, on June 17, 2019 at 12:08 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6

Hey Guys! So we are doing a very relaxed food option for our wedding. We are doing a Buffet style Taco & Fajita Bar and a Donut Bar. I'm super excited because this is literally FH and I in a nutshell taste wise. Our wedding is a barn wedding too so kind of goes with the theme or relaxed. Our caterer wants an additional $3 per person to include chips and Queso (Which honestly I don't think is worth it because those items are very cheap) and we have 100 people so thats an extra $300 I'm just not willing to spend on something so simple. My Uncle is an amazing cook and I reached out to him to see if he would be interested in making some side options to munch on during wedding party photos and everything and he is down (We are are all staying in 9-10 bedroom cabins that have massive kitchens) so prep space and everything is no issue. My parents offered to pay for the items for him to make and for his time. I just don't know how my caterer will feel about me bringing in a secondary option... am i just over thinking this? i feel like I have seen lots of weddings that use a lot of different food options but then again I've only been to like 3 weddings in my adult life... Is this something I should run by my caterer? Or just treat it as if I hired a second caterer. I figured she probably won't mind as long as we choose to do something she doesn't offer... right? Idk... any opinions?

I would contact your caterer and check your contract. It might not be as big of a deal if it was another professional caterer, but assuming your uncle isn't a licensed and insured caterer, it's a liability for him to serve your guests. Your caterer may have concerns that they could be associated with any mishaps or illnesses that are possible with inexperienced caterers.

Most caterers won’t allow this for liability reasons so I would ask them before you proceed with anything.

That makes a lot of sense... Honestly I didn't even think about the liability behind it... Thank you!

We emailed our caterer qnd they just specified that they would not serve anything that wasnt from them with the exception of the cake, which we paid a cutting fee. So we're doing our own buffet apps.
