Much needed Date Night

EmAbrams, on November 21, 2019 at 3:14 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 5

My husband and I were married on Aug 31 this year and I am so happy to finally be his wife! After the dust settled from the wedding, he was diagnosed and had unexpected surgery. He is okay, actually more than okay, but since the surgery he has been off work. I have been struggling a little (with jealousy) getting up and going to work every day while he is at home. Anyways, I have been a cranky with him and it is not his fault. My daughter will be going to her Grandmothers and we have an opportunity for a date night on Saturday. I want to do something special for him but I don't know what? I don't want to do the typical dinner and a movie...….

Toss me your special date night ideas. Ready….GO!

Oh...and I realize how spoiled rotten I sound lol

Our favorite date night is ubering to our favorite restaurant in our city, walking around the city and stopping at a little bakery to pick up dessert before we head home. It’s nice to not worry about which one of us is driving so we can each have a few drinks at dinner and gives us some time to walk around and talk and enjoy some fresh air (harder to do in the winter months where we live).

Do you happen to have any *live* theatre in your area?

Just to change it up, see something new, and also get a chance to support your local artists! Plus, you might find a cute little theatre company who has affordable tickets, so you can go every few months.

Community theatres tend to also have fundraisers and "galas" and stuff, where you can wear your fancy clothes, meet new friends, and generally have fun.

I can relate to you so much! My wife got overwhelmed and a bit jealous while she had to cook and clean after my first surgery and then I was home for 4 weeks after the second. Then she was home for over a month so it became my turn to get jealous and frustrated. It isn't about being spoiled, it's normal as long as you realize it's not fair to take it out on him which it sounds like you do.

As for the date, I agree with Sarah. One of our favorite things is to wander one of the local towns or our downtown area. We are lucky to have lots of places to eat or grab a drink and there is always something to see or do like glass blowing at the museum or an art show. I would look for events around you and plan to spend time wandering and enjoying the sites and venues around you. A rough idea gives you a direction without a specific timetable if you both find something along the way that looks like fun. Have fun!

FH and I love to play Scrabble together! If there's a board game both of you like, that can be a fun (and cheap) date night!
