mua is double booked

AlmostMrsSmith, on June 28, 2018 at 12:57 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 16
I’m 8 days away and my MUA told me yesterday via text that she was cutting my appointment short to make it to another gig. It’s $500 for my hair and make up, my moms hair and makeup and one bridesmaids hair. She’s bringing someone I never met and plans to do it all between 10 & 12pm because she has to get to her next gig.

Should I let it go and hope it goes well? I’ve told her I’m not happy about her double booking herself but it seems like she really doesn’t care. Contract doesn’t cover this issue...

2 hours is NOT enough time to do your hair and makeup let alone your mother's and bridesmaids'. I'd tell her that is unacceptable, and remind her that she had a commitment to you first.

Does the contract state her name alone? When is the money due? What are the terms of the contract? I would see if you can renegotiate a new contract with her since she is changing the terms and lower the price. I would just be cautious to piss her off too much in case she does a botched job, but she is 100% acting in an unprofessional manner.

I wouldn't let it slide. If you booked first, you need that time for your hair and makeup. Why risk having someone random person come and not be able to complete a look the way you want it? I would be so miffed.

My trial hair took 2 hours (granted I have a lot of hair) and my makeup trial took 40 minutes. Even if your hair takes an hour that still only leaves an hour for your makeup and everyone else in total. The contract probably says something about services rendered. Does it give any time requirements for this stuff? I know mine says a minimum 45 minutes is required for makeup. Obviously it's there to protect her from people trying to jam everything in, but it works both ways. What if she's not done by 12? Is she going to leave your bridesmaid unfinished and go to her next thing?

I know this is frustrating, but especially during busy season it’s super common for HMUAs to double book. Especially since you only have a few people getting things done. I would maybe ask if she can start earlier because you’d like ample time for you and your girls. If she started at 9 with your bridesmaid, then mom, then you last, there will be plenty of time considering she will have help.

I would just communicate your concerns and ask for the earlier start time since she did commit to you first. But definitely keep the relationship on a good note-she will be in charge of your look for your big day after all!

Oh I offered to start earlier at 9:00am and she's firm on 10am. She says it's because "I need my rest."

Ok yeah no that’s unacceptable. You need to tell her to get her butt there at 9am if she wants any kind of good review from you. At first I was like yeah, be understanding yada yada, but that crosses a line. It’s disrespectful and rude. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this Smiley sad

Does your contract say anything about the timing that you hired her for the day? It sucks that she is springing this on you last minute. Even worse is her unwillingness to start the day earlier. Did she at least show you a sample of work from the assistant she is bringing?

Sounds like she doesnt want to do your appointment to me! Thats not cool! I would fuss with her supervisor if there is one! If not perhaps think about going with someone else!

Unacceptable. No way I'd let it slide. If she doesn't figure out how to either start earlier or push back her next appointment I would find someone else and get your deposit back. This is her fault, not yours.

Yea that's the vibe I'm getting too. I booked through a company so I'm waiting on said supervisor to call me back.

My new SIL did my glow up for my whole bachlorette weekend. At least she'd be happy to do it.

This is a stress you dont need! I hope it all works out for you. I hope you hear from the company soon also, hopefully they can resolve this issue to give you the time and services you need without any additional stress.

Busy season or not, booking appointments that make your already booked appointments get cut short is not acceptable.

That is not enough time. Your contract doesn't say how long she will stay, or that she specifically will do all hair & makeup? I would start contacting other HAMU artists and see if any are available. That's insane and an awful business practice for what she is doing. Have you called or emailed her, explaining how uncomfortable this makes you since you never talked about this prior and want her to do everyone's hair and makeup? If you're stuck with her because of the contract, I would NOT tip. And make sure to leave a review for other brides.

Yea I'm stuck with the contract. I'm trying to make nice-nice since this lady will be doing my wedding face!

I talked to her boss and we agreed that we can use their timeline but if I something is not right she will stay and fix it. Her boss agreed with me that she shouldn't have ever told me there was another wedding.

As for tip and review... lets see what's got day of.

Anyone else feel kind let down by a few vendors but just feeling like it's not worth the drama to fight it?
