Mr. and Ms. addressing

SLY, on July 30, 2021 at 1:40 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 11

Hello everyone!

I'm going through our guest list and double checking how we've listed names for addressing and I have a question.

We're putting Mr., Ms., Mrs. before their names, but do we need to just have that with the last name? Or is it okay to list that with the full name? Specifically for couples that live together (or don't), but they have different last names.

Ex: "Mr. John Doe and Ms. Jane Smith" --or do we do-- "Mr. Doe and Ms. Smith"

TIA!

We did Mr./Dr. John Doe and Ms. Jane Smith for non married couples and Mr./Dr. and Mrs. John Doe for married couples.

We chose to list them with title, first name, and last name each (Mr. John Doe and Mrs. Jane Smith). With so many family members who share a last name on the guest list it would seem pretty important to be specific on who you are addressing the invitation to.

Thank you! Since our RSVPs are online, we're just keeping married couples as "Mr. and Mrs. Smith", otherwise we def. would've done the full name to keep track of RSVPs! Thank you for your feedback!

When the couple shared the same last name, we did "Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Doe." With different last names, we did "Mr. John Doe and Ms. Jane Smith." I personally can't stand it when the woman's name is not included, so this is why we did it this way!

I agree, I don't like to leave the woman's name off either. If we were doing paper RSVPs we would've included the first names for couples sharing the last name, but since they're online and we don't have to keep track of mailed RSVPs, we just put "Mr. and Mrs. couple's last name", for those not, we're going to include the full name.

    Thank you for your response!!
