Moving out of state right after getting married???

Chelsey , on August 28, 2017 at 12:41 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

Is anyone else getting married and doing a big move? We are also going on an out of state vacation 3 weeks prior to our wedding. This is part to get my FH moved back stateside.

I'm looking at tips for managing the move, wedding, and life in general. We are moving a week or so after we get married. The wedding planning is at 95% complete.

The plan is to what I can now so I can be calm later on.

Thank you!

We are! We're planning on moving from Indiana to Rhode Island the week after the wedding!

I'm a little nervous but the plan is to have the wedding pretty much completely planned early so we can spend the few weeks leading up packing.

Yep, DH & I uprooted everything & moved from California to North Carolina one month after our wedding. There's no way around the fact that it's going to be hectic, but it is what it is & all you can do is just breathe & go with the flow. And gradually start packing stuff up now. We did a box or two every night & sent the majority of our stuff over using PODS (not cheap!!). I hope all goes well for you & good luck!

When did you leave your job? A few people have recommended a month prior to our wedding date.

My husband moved from Australia to the US 2 months before the wedding. And I "moved" from Arkansas to arizona for those few months (I left most behind in storage). And then two days after we got back from our honeymoon we moved from Arizona back to Arkansas. It was a lot ! But we got it done lol. We tried to pack little by little. We gave ourselves a day off between the wedding and the honeymoon and got some of our things packed into our car. Then went on our honeymoon and came back and packed the rest of our stuff in the car. And made the big drive!

It definitely was a lot going on but it helped that we tried just doing a little at a time! Start early and get things done slowly!

It's been a rough season for us with trying to start new jobs, being away from family, trying to make new friends, etc but at the same time it's been nice because we've really had to lean on each other. Good luck to you guys Smiley smile

We're busy packing this week because we're moving to Europe two days after the wedding. We need to be fully packed by the day of the wedding and ready to go. FH already has all his stuff there but we have to move me. I'd say the only real tip I have is don't overwhelm yourselves. We've been doing small tasks every day and then "rewarding" ourselves with date nights or ice cream or whatever.

I'll be moving to Vegas from Phoenix literally the day I get back from my honeymoon. I've been planning everything for my wedding WAY WAY in advance because my plan is to get our home ready for move in a month before the wedding.

We're renting so I hope to sign a lease with the first month free, plan a weekend out there to buy all the furniture, and just let my fiancé deal with the delivery and set up since he lives there. We will probably drive my things up the weekend before the wedding since it's just a 4 hour drive. But my whole thing is I want my home ready for move in when I get there as much as possible because I will start work not even 2 days later (job location transfer).

Do you have anyone in the state your moving too who can help? My in laws and FH friends will help us unpack and such to get it all done in 1 weekend. I figured if my wedding planning is practically done months before the wedding I can do this move before too!

We're not moving immediately after, about 6 months. We're moving from New York to South Carolina next fall. But I'm already stressing out about having enough money after the wedding to buy a house.

@Andie where in Rhode Island? I grew up there and it holds a very special place in my heart. An absolutely beautiful state with much more to it than meets the eye!

Yes! I move to VA from PA a month after the wedding and I am stressed about trying to pack everything and finish wedding planning.
