Moving chairs from ceremony to the cocktail hour?

Ashley, on April 29, 2021 at 10:53 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

Hi! I'm in beginning stages of sorting out my rentals. One company did offer the option to use the same chairs used in the ceremony over to the outdoor cocktail hour.

My thoughts are that this will leave my older guests without a seat until they bring them over (Hoping this can be done quickly but ya never know, right?)

Do you guys think this is a good idea or maybe just order a different set of chairs for the cocktail hour that will already be setup? (Of course budget is a factor so i's like to for-go this option)

You could always get an estimate of how many chairs you would need for your older guests, and request that the company have those already set up? Or have them set up that amount of chairs first before going back for the rest? I don't think this is something you should spend the extra money on by renting extra chairs.

I think when there’s chairs people will naturally sit in them. So I can imagine during cocktail hour people grabbing drinks and then going to sit in the ceremony chairs and then have to be told that they need to move those chairs. Would that be awkward for you? I think if you had other seating areas like maybe furniture set up, or high and low cocktail tables and a few chairs you could probably get away with it. But you only have those chairs might be tricky, because if your guests do end up sitting in them they might feel awkward if they’re told by the venue that they have to get up because they need to move them.

The ceremony and the cocktail hour will be in different areas, so I feel if there is someone directing them to leave the ceremony area and go to the cocktail area it would get them up from that chair? If that makes sense?

That's what I was thinking, try to give them a sense of urgency to move a certain number first. Thanks for the reassurance! Smiley smile

Yeah that makes sense. I feel like there may still be some guests that continue to talk amongst themselves in the ceremony seats before they go get a drink at the cocktail area, but either way I think its definitely ok, as long as you don’t mind some of your guests possibly being told to move. I don’t think any of your guests will really care anyhow.

I think it’s pretty common for chairs to be moved from the ceremony space to the reception space. If your cocktail hour is in a separate space it shouldn’t be an issue.
