Motivation

Caitlin, on February 11, 2020 at 1:24 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 19

So I joined the gym end of January and have gone a couple times the past 2 weeks. I didn't go this past week because I've been feeling blah and now i'm getting sick.

I need to lose weight for my health..but also want to lose weight for the wedding. My Fiance and I have been watching everything we eat..we cut out soda's...cut down on carbs...have been meal prepping healthy meals for about a month now..I try to eat more vegetables..I'm drinking a bunch more water than I was...and i'm trying to get up and move more when I'm at work.

What do you use as motivation to get you to the gym? What do you say to yourself to get up and get there when you go? And how often do you go?

I hate the gym aha. I just haven't ever been into going to the gym and figuring out what machine or workout is best so instead I just go to fitness classes where someone can teach me and push me. Maybe you can try some fitness classes? For many people they're often times more fun esp with a friend

It's a little different for me because my job is already athletic. But to do extra cross-training still takes a lot of willpower for me. I notice I'm happiest to go to the gym when I find those workouts that release the good endorphins and make me feel accomplished after. So maybe it's hard when I'm running on the treadmill, but afterwards I get a high from the endorphins the workout gives. I'm always in a better mood for that day. If I force myself to only do stuff I hate, I make excuses to not go. So I encourage you to try different machines and exercises and find what pushes you and brings you closer to your goal, but also ones that make you feel good after. And if you're like me, you might enjoy a certain routine for a bit but then want to switch it up and something else will make you happy for a while. Building healthy habits is good for your wedding and for the rest of your life. (Oh and make a killer playlist.) Good luck! ❤️

That is for sure an idea. When I go I have been using the treadmill because walking is therapeutic and it gives me ideas an energy for the day. The problem is with everything going on at home (with my mom and brothers not the FH) i am so drained by the time i go to bed and wake up exhausted so getting up and to the gym hasn't been happening.

I used to never go to the gym, but now I go 5 times a week. For me, traditional gym memberships never motivated me, but now I go to a specialty gym with barre, cycling, and HIIT classes. You can only attend classes (the gym isn’t open for anything else). I love the people and genuinely enjoy the classes. I think the best motivation is loving what you do. I am actually excited to attend my gym classes and miss it when I cannot go on the 2 days a week my schedule doesn’t allow for it. Maybe try a few different class styles and see if you love any of them? I’d give them all a few tries since classes can be kind of awkward the first few times you go as you learn what to do

Thanks! The playlist I have (youtube). I have been using the treadmills and I try to set a goal for myself when I go to hit a certain mile or what not before I leave for work since I go at ugly o'clock (i'm up around 430 every morning with the FH so i'm in early to work out)

I appreciate that. I have been going to planet fitness because I find they are more comfortable an environment for someone my size (not huge but someone for sure not comfortable in her own body). But maybe I should look into some classes and see what I find Smiley smile

Having a daily routine helps me. Like every Tuesday & Thursday after work, I go to the gym. Every Saturday morning, I go on a long walk with our dog. Once it becomes routine (2-3 weeks), it's way easier. I go to the gym twice a week, and do at home workouts the other 3 days.

That's an idea too. I go first thing in the morning because I am up so early with the FH. He goes to the gym as well..we just go to different gyms for now because he's in a specialty program for his weight and his back injury (broke his back 11ish years ago..still bothers him)

I definitely would look into classes! A lot of places have great classes and are very accepting. Where I go we have people of all sizes and ages and everyone is so supportive and helpful! I’m sure there’s a place like that around you too 😊

I've been consistently going to the gym 3-5x a week for about a year now. I have to wake up at 5 a.m. in order to go before work and I HATED it at first. But after about two weeks of forcing myself to do it consistently, it became part of my routine. I'd wake up even before my alarm went off and started to crave that feeling of being active and invigorated first thing in the morning. So even if it feels really tough at first, stick with it and it does get easier!

Thank you! That's about when I want up too because FH has to be at work for 545..so if I go to the gym I leave about the same time he does. I went a few times but then the following week I woke up all blah..ended up being a bad week at work..and then the past 2 days I have been all sorts of stuffed up thanks to him for getting me sick. However tonight i go to bed early and start with the gym again tomorrow.

Man that is really hard at that early hour! What's been working for me on the treadmill is a slight elevation for the whole time and do a 2 minute warmup at fast walking (if I'm not already warm, or 1 minute if warm) then 1 minute comfortable run (not sprint but not jog because I'm uncomfortable jogging). Then I do intermittent training so 1 minute fast walk 1/1.5/2 minute run. I usually keep going for about 15 minutes, but as I said I'm in an athletic profession and this is additional training so I don't know how it compares for for you. Maybe it's too hard or too easy on your stamina. I don't know if this info is helpful to you, but for me I didn't like going to the gym until I had more specific ideas of what was good for me. This is what trainers have recommended. Now I love running but I never thought I would! 😊

Ah yes I see you said you're sick, oh no 😞 a little sweating is possibly beneficial, but definitely be nice to yourself tomorrow and change into dry clothes ASAP after the workout. 💪

Im halfass motivated. I know I need to workout and I plan to workout and I feel like working out because I really want to get it done but i draggg. Sometimes im literally dragging and wasting time. Today I sat on the bed a whole hour just to put on my workout clothes lol yesterday I kept saying i Need to exercise but im like oh let me just take care of xyz first & I worked out at 7:30pm when I literally was free all day. Sometimes ur not motivated until u are if that makes sense. Ur doing a really good job w ur efforts so keep it up. Workout when u feel better even if u have to drag urself to do it

I love my dress but I hate how much weight I’ve put on after having a baby and they way the extra weight makes me look in my dress. So I look at the picture of me on my dress daily and remind myself this is not how I want to look on my wedding pictures and I want my child to have a healthy parent. Maybe get a outfit like for your bridal shower that you want to fit into and make that your goal.

Hardest part is getting to the gym.. then it’s a breeze. After you are consistent for a couple weeks you will WANT to go!
