Mother/son & father/daughter dance

Hailey, on March 10, 2022 at 4:13 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 3 6
Is it technically ok to skip out on the Mother/Son & Father/Daughter dance? My fiancé and I aren’t dancers to begin with (we suck at it) but we’re also not close with our parents, specifically he’s not close with his mom & I’m not close with my dad. We love them, but we just don’t have a relationship with them and the thought of the dances are giving us anxiety. Can we improvise or skip? It’s going to be a small wedding (probably less than 100 people), and we’re trying to figure out other activities to include during the reception instead, but we don’t want to face any backlash because we truly aren’t trying to hurt anyone’s feelings, we just want to be able to 110% enjoy our special day without dreading that dance.

Yes. They aren't required at all. I'm not doing them.

Totally fine to skip! It's also fine to not replace them with anything. If you felt that you really wanted to do something in its place, you could have your parents dance to the song they played at their own wedding. I am skipping the father/daughter dance and not replacing it with anything.

Of course. Your wedding day schedule is up to you. Lots of people don't do them - we didn't. Smiley smile

Don't do anything you don't want to do! Even if feelings get hurt, this day is about you and FH. I'm skipping a few traditions myself.

Many couples skip those and they aren’t missed. Don’t pretend to be close to someone for pictures if there is no relationship. Someone else can have the dances at their own wedding when it’s their turn
