Mother/daughter Dance Song - i Loved Her First

Amanda, on October 4, 2019 at 8:27 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 11
I've been beating myself up about this... my mom and dad are divorced and he is not in the picture. So I plan on dancing with my mom at the reception. I love the song "I Loved Her First" by Heartland but have an issue with a guy singing it and not sure if there is a good female version of it... in the song it plays "I know that the love of a father runs deep" .... is there ANY version where it has a woman singing a cover of the song but changes "love of a father runs deep" to "love of a MOTHER runs deep " ?? Any leads would be super helpful!! TIA

I don't know of a female version, but honestly I wouldn't worry about it. I know it's not ideal, but I don't think anyone will be scrutinizing the lyrics that closely. I'm dancing with my dad to a song that's a man singing to his girlfriend/wife, but it's just talking about how beautiful she is and how much he loves her. People will understand what you're going for with that song, I would just play the song as is Smiley smile

Growing up I always envisioned my dad would be there dancing with me to this song.. but as I got older, i realized my mom is the one who single handedly raised me and I now relate the song to her and not my dad.. so having the guy sing messes with me a bit

I think you should embrace it.. it seems like you mom was your mom AND your dad! If you look at it that way, it comes across as a huge compliment. Just a thought..

There is a version on Youtube that is sung by a female, Casi Joy, but it still mentions a fathers love. This is my song for my youngest daughter!

I say look on YouTube because you might find a female version. I LOVE this song and this is the one I danced with my dad for our father and daughter dance but I wanted in Spanish so he’ll understand every word it said and I found the perfect version on YouTube. I copy the link and send to my DJ and they had exactly that one.

I agree with PPs that you shouldn't worry about the father line. It's a song about a parent's love, I'd embrace that. I'm sure your guests will.

I think that's a really sweet thing for you and your mom to do. I can't think of any female version but maybe stopping the song right before that line or start right after that line could work too if it bothers you that much. If not I don't think anyone else will notice like you will

You could always pay someone to cover it for you. Usually local bands or singers will do it for cheap (:

Have you heard of the song "mamas song" by carrie underwood. It's specifically about mothers on a wedding day.

Mama there's no way you'll ever lose me
And giving me away is not goodbye
As you watch me walk down to my future,
I hope tears of joy are in your eyes'Cause he is good, so good
And he treats your little girl like a real man should
He is good, so good, he makes promises he keeps
